Hi FABO, I had a chance to pull the 318 and started to look around and noticed some points of interest on the firewall. I don't really know how to interpret what I'm seeing so I'm looking for some first thoughts and a sanity check on its over all condition.

*First pic is the bottom of the firewall around the trans tunnel.
*Second Pic is passenger side has crease with rust and gnarled pinch weld.
*Third Pic is driver side has gnarled pinch weld and what appears to be a dent or buckle.

Thanks Much!

that looks great. wish mine was that solid when i started. mine was rotted at the pinch weld all way down to the floor.

Yeah, nothing terrible there. Just straighten out that flange with a hammer or visegrips, and wirebrush away the rust. Maybe have to fill a few spots.

Thanks!
I was wondering about that dent on the driver side but as long as it's not a buckle that might indicate frame distortion I'm good.

For the seam it was literally gnawed down to make room for the 1 piece throttle pressure linkage. Not sure why they did it to the passenger side.

It sounds like I'll be okay cleaning.. Welding, sealing. The pinch seam to prevent water penetration.

Sounds like I have nothing big here. I'll take it down to metal soon.
