what does this number mean

The number on my block is 2780930-340-1. I assume the first 7 is the casting # and the 340 is the cube but what does the 1 mean. I have heard several things. Iwas told it was the number of times it took to get the block right. can any one enlighten me for a fact what it means. thanks

It's a std 2 bolt main LA 340 manufactured from 1968-1973.
