Hello I am putting a 340 a833 into my 70 swinger. Upgraded to a 8 3/4 with large u bolt yoke. Is there a standard shaft I can use or do I need a custom one. I can get a shaft from a 68 340 barracuda would that work
Thanks joe

The front yoke will need to be from a 727 or A833 transmission. You will need a driveshaft that will accept the 7290 U joints, if I remember correctly.

68 Barracuda is 108" wb, Dart is 111". Driveshaft will be too short if it was from a 904 or 4 speed.

IIRC, you need a shaft around 51.75" center to center.

The driveshaft out of my '71 Dart GT with 318/904 and 8 3/4" rear is 52" even C-C. Should be the same for a 340/4 speed 8 3/4. Mine has 4260 joints, might be a little different going to 4290, but not much. Always best to measure, there are definitely factory tolerances to consider, not to mention ride height etc that play into that measurement.

Just as side note for the rear joint MOOG has a u joint p/n 347 that will adapt the small yoke drive shaft 7260 to the larger yoke on the 8 3/4 rear 7290 might be some thing you run into when hunting for servicable shaft

Don't cheap out when it comes to yokes. I'd stay away from the small stuff depending on what your doing, if you any day decide to go to with slicks , go chrome alloy front to back. . Lost a whole weekend at the track over a pinion yoke last month.
