How many zeros in a billion?

This is too true to be funny.

The next time you hear a politician use the
Word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about
Whether you want the 'politicians' spending
YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,
But one advertising agency did a good job of
Putting that figure into some perspective in
One of it's releases.

A.
A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

B.
A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

C.
A billion dollars ago was only
8 hours and 20 minutes,
At the rate our government
Is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain...
let's take a look at New Orleans ...
It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.

Louisiana Senator,
Mary Landrieu (D)
Is presently asking Congress for
250 BILLION DOLLARS
To rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number...
What does it mean?

A.
Well .. If you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans
(every man, woman, and child)
You each get $516,528.

B.
Or... If you have one of the 188,251 homes in
New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.

C.
Or... If you are a family of four...
Your family gets $2,066,012.

Washington , D. C

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago....
And our nation was the most prosperous in the world.

We had absolutely no national debt...
We had the largest middle class in the world...
And Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What happened?
Can you spell 'politicians!'

And I still have to
Press '1'
For English.

I hope this goes around the
U S A
At least 100 times

What the heck happened?????

You press 1 for english and you get someone in India who can't speak it!

Wait, you forgot income tax- that's the first one that has to go- think about what that would mean for your income.

Interesting...though I'm not a fan of the ridiculous government spending as of late, as a history major i must comment on a couple of items....

we didn't actually leave British rule to avoid taxes outright, remember the saying was "no taxation without representation" not "no taxation." the main complaint was king George kept adding taxes, but we 'colonists' had absolutely no representation in Parliament, despite our status as British Citizens. Its not that the founding fathers were anti-tax they understood the need for taxes, but also realized that those being taxed needed a say in government.

also 100 years ago we were not the most prosperous nation in the world, in 1910 we were still a fairly isolated nation. It actually wasn't until after WWII that we truly became a world power.

oh yeah and some of those taxes did exist, for example the first Federal Income Taxes were imposed in 1861. Property taxes were also around long before 1900 in the USA, and others im sure.

For some reason this reminds me of something I saw on tv a few weeks ago. They set out to prove the notion that it was much easier, or better, 'when I was a kid' or 'times were simple back when...'
So they interviewed progressively older people in an attempt to find the secret to those simple times when things were so much better.
What they found was it wasn't so easy or simple- ever. Vietnam in the 70s, cold war in the 50s, etc. When they got to the last person, her memories were of the great depression.
The reality was they were simple times because when people remember those times- they were kids!

I still hate income tax.
