Looking for a good answer here. I do know that the 1405 has a manual choke but what else is different. And Why.

From what I see by the specs.......The 1405 manual is a hair richer on the primaries vs the 1406 electric...

With that said, if you want a electric choke, I believe it can be added to the 1405? But why not just use the 1406 and get the tuning parts to get where you need to be...

Dad n I put the 1405 on his, then added the elec choke. Not sure what the spec differences are.

I think the 1406 is geared more toward a replacement carb for smaller displacement drivers, especially since most of those applications/customers don't want to fool with a manual choke.
1405 "tuned for performance" from the brochure.
1406 "tuned for economy"
If you google around you can find the exact tuning parts used in each.
Also be aware that the length of the actuator tab is different for the choke.
The choke kit comes with a new one.

CFM same, Main jet primary 1405 = .100"- 1406 =.098 , main jet sec. same , metering rod Pri. same , step up springs 1405 = org. - 1406 = yellow , pump drive location 1405 = middle hole -1406 top hole , accelerator pump nozzle Dia. 1405 = .028" - 1406 .031" and the choke , but everything else is the same .
