What is this on the 727?

Hi all, just out of curiosity... I came across this 727 but I never seen this "box" on top? And the linkage system seems different as well, what is it?
Is it from a truck, maybe?

The box looks like some type of speed transducer for cruise control or other speed dependent device

Exactly ^^^^^^ It'a s a cruise control transducer. Although I've never seen one mounted ON the transmission. I'd almost have to be a truck to fit THERE.

That's just laying on the tranny I bet... with the cables still attached

It is just laying there on the trans case, it's not mounted there. It mounts to the rear of the engine.
