Just bought a race car. It is supposed to have an X Block and W2 heads. This is higher end stuff than I have ever had anything to do with before. What are the improvements in an X Block over a regular Block?

Congrats on getting a great car. I believe there is a big X on the front of the block. Either on the left or right. It’s a stronger block that is beefed up.

Filled pan rails on 2,3 and 4 main bearing bulkheads.

Thicker decks.

There should be a big X on the front of the number 2 cylinder.

If it has an alternator it makes it hard to see.

There is no tunnel ram on this motor. It is a single 4bbl. Thats not saying it's not the same engine. I'd love to hear more specs on it! According to 2 friends of mine that knew the owner, it dynoed st 650 or 700hp.

Lyndon didn't want the tunnel ram and put a single 4 on. trust me it's my old engine.

I believe you! I didn't want to mention the name. I just sent you a PM. I'd love to hear more about it. I'd be interested on the specs of the tunnel ram you used as well. I am going to pick up the csr and a mess of parts today.

He should have stayed with the TR. Did you keep it?
i tried to keep the tunnel ram on it when i sold it to the guy but he wanted nothing to do with 2 carbs. he told me he has enough trouble with 1 carb never mind 2!!

i sold the tunnel ram last year. i still have the carbs and linkage, even the NOS system

the other engine you will pick up has my old X heads and super victor intake. there is a ton of parts Lyndon bought off me just before he passed away.

Weren't they all also bored to a rough 318 bore as well? I know there were a couple of block offerings that were, I just cannot remember which.

Mine measured 3.830 rough bored. That’s .080 under 318 and I took it to 4.04 . I’ll sonic test it and if it will go 4.125 I’ll take it to 4.100 and send it.

I believe there is another "X" emboss on the driver side, along where the 340 marking is. They have a little extra meat at the mains if wanted to install 4 bolt caps.
