What range of 340 engine casting dates should I be looking for? (73 Dart Sport)

Hello all :-D

I have a 73 Dart Sport 340 "convertriple" that has a large hole under the hood with no engine to put in it. My car was built on 2-13-73. What range of engine casting dates should I be looking for?

If the original engine is gone, what difference does it make what date is on the engine unless you need it to scam some unsuspecting soul into paying you more than the car is worth? Numbers matching is a Blowtie fiction anyway. Be honest, that's the Mopar way.

Some people like them as close to possible. Hunting for the parts is half the fun (frustration ?)

Ive all ways wanted to a do a "correct" car.

I just want it to be as original as possible. I have to buy a motor so why not try to get one that was cast at about the correct date? I'm not selling it or trying to scam anyone. Don't they have vin #'s stamped on the blocks anyways?

Did they usually cast the motors 6 months before the build date of the car or is there a "range". For example, would 8 months before be feasible? Or how about 4 months?

yes they will have a vin stamped in them. Some were left blank though.

I see no problem wanting to make the car as correct as possible. For those interested in factory correct restorations, I think it would also affect resale value. It's the next best thing to a numers matching block ... which 1973DartSport does not have ... nor is he trying to pass it off as. The serial numbers will reveal that.
