What roller lifters?

I've been racking my brain for days working out with all the trend towards roller lifters these days, just who's lifters are best? who has the best prices? which companies resell others lifters?

So I have started to compile a list of roller lifters both hydraulic and solid.
This is just my findings as inaccurate as it may be I can edit it later, im just trying to sort out a list for us to reference


SOLID ROLLERS:


Comp cams Endure-x 828-16, Hughes 5102 $435

These are a solid body with NO pushrod oiling and NO axle oiling.They have no oil hole and rely on splash oiling only. They have no waistband cut out and as such generally do not lose oil pressure on high lift and can be run without oiling mods. They do require block grinding to fit

These have a waistband that can dump oil pressure on high lift cams particularly on heavily chamfered lifter bores. I believe they DO axle oil as well as pushrod oil, oil hole perpendicular to axle. They require grinding to fit standard blocks, lifters need to be modded to oil when used in factory roller blocks

These are a true drop in solid roller lifter that require no block grinding. I believe the waistband can still be exposed on high lift cams and a small base circle grind can remedy this. They DO pushrod oil and axle oil, oil hole parallel to axle. I believe Brian from IMM engines helped develop these so kudo's to him for this, I believe he also offers excellent pricing on these as well.

Another true drop in roller lifter with a lowered waist band. These will also pushrod oil but i DONT believe they have any axle oiling. I believe they were developed by morel with help from hughes

Believe these take some grinding in some blocks, my understanding is they do not pushrod oil nor axle oil. Has large waistline that can be exposed at full lift

These are again are drop in lifter, No pushrod or axle oiling on these. Very good for price but will only splash oil axles. Has a thin waistline to stop exposure at full lift

As above but from Ultra-pro series so capable of much more spring pressure and agressive lobes. Doesnt have pressurised axle oiling but utilises unique oil slots to lubricate axles from lobe splash

As above but accomodates pushrod oiling

As above but accomodates .400 taller lifter bores ie magnum, R3 etc

A drop in hyd. lifter that requires no grinding, can expose waistline on high lift cams when used in heavily chamfered lifter bores. Reduced base circle cams can remedy this. Pushrod oiling ?

I think i would summarise by saying if you want a cheap solid roller that doesnt pushrod oil or axle oil then the Herbet's are a good deal,
but if you do a bit of street driving then the comp 8043's from Brian are a good choice particularily if u need to pushrod oil as well and u can drop then in an assembled motor with no grinding etc
If you have a very aggressive lobe motor then the crane ultra-pro's are the go but thats really race only stuff


In regards to lifter bores etc, the correct way to mod the lifter bores is to have them sleeved to correct geometry and to restrict oil, however many of the solid lifters feature oiling functions that u may wish or need to utilise such as pushrod oiling or axle oiling. To use these functions you would then need to drill the bushings back into the lifter gallery feeds.
Another way to do this (Although it doesnt correct geometry or chamfered edges) is to do the MP tube and peen package on BOTH lifter galleries, either with a lifter gallery cross over and a blocked off feed from No.1 main or through the standard path. Then if required you can drill metered holes into the tubes in the lifter bores to oil through the pushrods and axle oil. Then exposed waists, valvetrain failure etc wont result in low oil pressure

If hydraulics are need I would go the hughes/morel lifters, I think that is a no brainer

Please PM me if I have any of this wrong, have doubled up on same lifters, have left out quality lifters etc

Biggest problem is I am even more confused as ever
