I need opinions. I'm looking to build the drivetrain in my duster. Right now I have a tired 318, a good 904 and 71/4 rear. I want to get a new engine. I have about $3000 to spend. I could rebuild the 318 or I have a 360 that I have had siting around that I could rebuild or I was toying with the idea of just buying an engine. I found this site anyone ever buy from it http://www.rebuiltcrateengines.com/dodge-318-challenger-p-2117.html
Any ideas what would be the best. I'm not looking to build a race car just something to run around on the weekends in.

Build the 360. Yourself. Or have a reputable engine builder do it for you. As for the 360 over the 318, in my opinion, you won't be sorry. There's no replacement for displacement and the money spent to build the 318 can be better spent on the 360. And as has been said: upgrade the rear.

Here's a link to a recent discussion on here as to crate engines. Most of the horror stories you read on this are true. Unless the crate engine is coming from someone like Ray Barton, beware. (I've heard good things about the MP crate's, too, just no experience with them.)

rebuild the 360. dont put a monster cam and popups in it. make it streetable. it will go good.
you can use the 904. they are pretty strong. better if you find a 727 to rebuild.
good luck.

would 3k be enough to build a decent engine? Where would I start? I lack the convience of a garage so I wary of starting a build in the driveway as I'm sure the weather can mess it all up.

Can you get the motor into a spare room in your house? I woud'nt attempt to do it in the drive way..too many opportunities for dirt and contamination. Otherwise, have a reliable shop do it for you, i think 3K should cover it.
