What to use on exterior moldings/logos?

Getting ready to finally put the final touches on the exterior of the '65 Formula S. I wonder what to use (if anything) on the back of the loose parts that attach to the exterior sheet metal. For example, the "PLYMOUTH" letters on the trunk, the pair of chrome strips on the top of the quarter panels, the pair of trim pieces below each door. Another question, did the factory use something? Thank you.

They used nothing between the letter and the paint. There was some rubberized goop in the nuts though...

Yep....always seems to be dried out and crusty when you remove them too! I've dug it out and used plumbers putty to pack the nuts with before re-installing. Works good!
