What year motor?

I listed a 273 on parts for sell section. My question is how can I tell what year the engine is? It doesn't have the ci. in and production date numbers like the 318,340 or 360's. How can I find out the year?

Take a look on the passenger side (just above the oil pan) by gasket. There should be a engine stamp code. (wipe the area) its small.

What is the formula for running the numbers on the side of the block,the numbers are 4006630-360-5 ,I know that it is a 360 but what year We just picked up a complete engine and trans for $200.00 here in Calif.

Hey, I've got a similar annoying question,

The stamp on my block reads 4M318 0908 0694. The 4 should mean that it's a 1974 block, but according to HP books', "Small-Block Mopar Engines," the date code ( 0908 ) would be pre-65. What's going on here???

4 = 74
M = Mound Road Assembly Plant
318 CI

0908 = Date Day/Month
0694 = Block # built
