Where can I find out what the numbers on transmission tell me? Is there a web page about these? Or anyone with a book of info?

Numbers cast on top of trans: 844-4
punched on rear left side: 3410 844-4
On pan rail, left side: PK3410767 (maybe PK34107671) 2996 5055
On passenger side OA156366

Thanks.

Continuing the case with this transmission, it is now placed in hot rod, and it is acting a little weird. It drives ok, but won't drive/reverse in idle, needs revs to start moving. Otherwise I don't feel any slipping, feels firm. Could it just be, that motorhome transmission/converter will act like this in a small car?

PK is the factory of assembly PK = Kokomo assy plant
Part number 3410767 = 1970 318 HD 727
2996 - 10,000 date code of assembly = Friday, October 10, 1969
5055 = number of transmission assembled that day till yours.

OA156366 this is the actual cars info from which it was taken from
O = model year 1970
A = cars factory of build = Lynch road plant
156366 last 6 of cars vin and/or the 56,365th car built at that factory that year.

the motorhome convertor would be a low stall. all 727 have the same gear ratio. do i dare ask if you got the convertor into the pump all the way during the install?

does it do this hot or cold? if cold it could be converter drain back. put car in neutral for a few seconds before going into drive and see if it changes engagement.

I am quite sure the converter is in enough. Otherwise it wouldn't pump at all, at any revs?

There is a slight feeling that it is worse when cold, gets little better when warmed.

I have tried shifting D - N - R - N - D a few circles, haven't noticed differences. Will try it again.

I have checked the fluid with engine running and as needed. The kickdown is not installed yet, but I don't see it having an importance at idle and near idle speeds.

Things went more weird today. I measured the line pressure from the port as shown here: http://www.civilianjeep.info/Transmission/Automatic/TorqueFlight/TFrighsidePressure02.gif

It was surprising, that after about 1minute running, it did engage very firmly both drive and reverse, with 700rpm. But, the line pressure showed 0 in R and N, and only 30 Psi in D. How could it be, to have firm engagement with near-zero pressure? I understand there could be somekind of measurement problem, but readings 0, 0, 30?

The line pressure varies with throttle pressure input so without the throttle pressure (kickdown) linkage hooked up it'll check low, although 30 is really low. According to the factory serv manual the minimum should be 55 psi with the throttle pressure lever forward. With the throttle pressure lever all the way back it should be 90-95

The line pressure port only measures pressure in forward gears. Thus the zero reading in reverse. You measure the pressure for reverse off the rear servo port.

Check the pressure at the rear servo port in reverse and post the results.

Ive Got Two Here Just need the year Pk351534434061631 and H 25383332847289, I think one is early 65 to 68 and the other is mid 70s , Also Remember Im in New Zealand and the H may be an import code Thanx
