What's the widest tire...

...that will fit on a stock 14X5.5 rim. Tires are dry rotted and want to fill up the rear wells on my 74 Dart Sport /6 a little bit and budget does not permit stepping up to 15" SBP's yet. Thank You in advance as everybody on this site has been very helpful so far.

Well, take a look....they fit.
Yes, they are a bit wide for a 5.5.
I really wanted 235s but I got a hell of a deal on the 245s and they have been on there for 8 years with no problem. And they don't rub.

As for the Michelin girl, I have seen much worse...with much less on.

Being an EMT did have it's 'benefits'.

I have 235/60/14 on my rallyes and they fit pretty good.

With 5.5" I would go with only a 205/70 tire. any bigger and you will have uneven tread wear. If you want fatter, get yourself some 15" rims that are 8" wide, then you can run 255's with no problems.

BTW since your car is a 74, there is a 99% chance it is big bolt pattern, 15" big bolt rallyes are plentiful and should cost you too much!

I have also used 245 60 14 on 5.5 rims and never had a problem.
