Which 340/Magnum manifolds will fit 66 dart 4speed

Hey guys trying to see what my options are, using 340 style or magnum style manifolds that will work in a manual steering 4 speed Dodge dart.

Trying to upgrade the stockers thanks!
 
Both can work with manual steering, but neither is a "drop-in".
Both will require varying degrees of grinding on the manifolds and/or trimming back the steering column outer cover, or replacing the coupler with a smaller diameter u-joint, and shimming the motor mounts for clearance. Or in the instance of Magnum manifolds, Shaving a bit off the mating surface to gain a little extra clearance.
This is all on the driver's side; I have never seen an issue on the passenger side, outside of some people reporting that they had an issue with the "swept back" passenger side 340 manifold contacting the firewall of early As.
Then there's compatibility with whatever motor you're running- mainly if you try to run 340 manifolds on a Magnum. There's a port mismatch there (the 340 exhaust manifold ports extend down significantly lower than the Magnum ports and have been known to cause sealing issues in some instances).
Lots of threads on here about fitting 340 and Magnum manifolds, and the sealing issues if that's pertinent to your situation.

i don't know of anything that's a drop in for the driver's side with a 4spd that doesn't require a fair bit of work. be that hunting down the right unit and grinding, angle milling the face, cutting back the column cover, switching the rag joint to u-joint, and head pipes done by picasso (surrealist period).
 
It could be that headers may actually be less work, and considering how much some people have been asking for 340 manifolds lately it may not be too much more expensive. Read the fine print from the mfrs. closely though for 4 spd. fitment.
 
Why wouldn't a V8 early A work.

I’ve had 340 manifolds on magnum heads on a magnum engine no issues sealing ever, always running remflex. Just have to grind down a couple areas on the head and block etc.

After doing research looks like there’s nothing that will work in a early Abody 4 speed, might just run those stock manifolds for now until I find some fender well headers or save $$$$$$ for Long tubes

Yep, exactly screw it I’ll take that 20 h.p loss at 5k lol
 
I ran 340 exhaust manifolds on my 65 Barracuda 4 speed for years, early and late. Tried different things but what worked best on the driver's side was manual steering box with power steering column and an adapter to mate the two. That moved the joint back out of the way of the manifold. Then run the outlet down between the torsion bar and the frame. On the passenger side, the late center outlet fit perfectly. The early rear outlet touched the inner fender at the bulge for the upper control arm adjuster (just one of them). Used a hammer to clearance that, but it was still very tight.

Been running TTI headers for a few years now. They fit, but the installation was a lot more involved than using 340 exhaust manifolds. Went back to manual column with the housing shortened, re-routed brake and electrical lines, replaced my home-made clutch linkage with Brewer's, etc., etc.

That’s awesome so the cheaper 72 340 driver side will fit? I’ll probably trim the coupler the car is manual steering I might use a universal joint to the box

Yeah, the A body 72 driver's side manifold is pretty much the same as the 68-71 except for the bracket for the heat stove (or whatever it was). My 340 was a 72 originally, and its manifolds were the ones I used back in the spring of 73.
 
If I remember correctly, you can use a 72 passenger side 340 manifold and mill the cone off where the down pipe bolts on. That, along with a little die grinder work gets you a 2 1/4 flat opening on that side also. You just need to get a flange gasket like you use on the drivers side. If you end up having to use a 90 degree oil filter adapter, make sure to get a true 90 degree adapter made to fit an early A. The later adapters are not a full 90 and causes the end of the oil filter to hit the frame rail.

Those things give me flashbacks to the mid 70's when I was a poor kid just getting started hot rodding. I beat holes in the fenderwells of more than one Early A Barracuda with a claw hammer and a cold chisel. I'm convinced that's where the knot on my left knuckle came from. Swinging the hammer with my right hand, like anybody else.....I missed sometimes!
 
I have a 318 in my 64 dart. Manual Steering and it now has a 3 speed floor shift. I just used magnum manifolds from a late model Dakota. I don't believe I had to do any modifications at all? But it's been about 10 years since I did the swap.

is that 3spd auto or manual? can you see the PN's on the manifolds? got any pics?
 
Its a manual. Ill see if I can find a part number.

i'd love to see the driver's side and how you routed the head pipe thru the clutch linkage and what the clearance is like to the steering shaft/column collar.

Yes. Thats why my first sentence said I was incorrect. I also thought when I did the swap I used dakota manifolds. Again, it was 10 years ago.

ah. that's on me, i wasn't paying attention!

if you ever get a chance, i'd still love to see the down pipe on that.
