i ordered a new flex plate and i put it on the car, drove it about, but when it 1st started up there was a whirling noise all the time, but after i drove it about, whirling noise stopped but when i put it in reverse it still whirls,

any ideas

940 box, 318ci motor, 1967 barracuda.

cheers

kinda sounds like the converter is touching the tranny pump, maybe the flexplate offset is causing this, it may be you may need to remove the tranny and look at the converter and see if its rubbing the pump.

went out in the car today, and the whining noise seems to of stopped altogether, it dosnt seem to do it in reverse niether now.

would it be ok if i left it.

why not, if you end up pulling the trans you might as well rebuild it, so i would leave it alone if the trans fluid is up, you do check the trans oil level in N, not park-correct?
