had an epson and couldn't stand that thing so i bought a HP and i hate this thing too.
i don't print a lot and usually in B&W but sometimes i do need color.. buying ink pisses me off. costs way too much for how long it lasts. damn printer always seems to be out of ink.
as a lot of the members on here said get a laser printer. the toner is really a degradable plastic and some filler that get's melted to the paper. It doesn't dry up so it lasts a long time. I cheat and added an wireless booster/access point to the printer and can print from anywhere using any of my computers or laptops/tablets.
I worked for a few years(7) after my retirement from Chryslers and my computer business as a service person for anything from satellites ,printers TV's to powered wheel chairs (called Ibots that went up/down stairs and stood/raised the person up to a taller position based off the segway design) )for the same company and worked on multiple types of printers for comparison.
I've used B&W HP's lasers (like the cheap 4000 model, industrial strength and cheap to buy used) I've got a laserjet 4m plus that's just now went over 3 million pages printed. the 4000 and the 4m plus are slow but since I'm not in an office environment anymore I don't care and they do double sided printing for cheap. cost per page is usually(1.7 cents per page) of the cost of an inkjet. I've use minolta's laser (sucks) epson's (sucks except the workforce with isn't as good as an older hp) and worked on almost all of the Lexmark printers until 2012 and the combo machines are BAD(paper jams and motor issues.. the single function printers are pretty good but you need to watch the pickup rollers (they tend to get dirty faster than others for some reason.) color lasers are not cost effective for home users since the usual cost of toner is 80.00 plus(cheapest I have found) PER cartridge for the 4 colors somewhere in the area of 14.0 cents per page). Don't even think about a Samsung printer. the reliability just isn't there. and the support makes lexmarks and Hp's support look like heaven compared to those guy.
my brother in-law likes the brothers laser since the toner and drum get replaced at the same time and is almost as cheap as the hp's in cost per page. (plus it a newer style printer @ 2.0 cents per page)
dell's are another option but are EXPENSIVE and supplies are too.
cheapest bang for the buck on inkjets so far seems to be the kodak printers but they are sort of weird to set up AND you can't NOT use them for a couples months or so or they will plug up. and like all inkjets they EAT ink. cost per page B&W = around 25.45 per page color is about double.
here's a link in comparison of different inkjets
