My 66 Cuda went on the rotisserie today and I have been following up on the collector insurance as i am amassing parts, and work is about to start on the car. So far Grundy and American Collectors have each said they do not provide coverage until a car is completed. Does any company provide coverage while it is being done, i.e., "vehicles in construction" coverage? Body will be at the restoration shop for a year or so, the engine at another shop and I will be sending things out for repair etc. (dash cluster, gauges, transmission, etc.) and had hoped there would be some coverage for that before the car is 100% back together, as there are still general risks to account for.

Anyone have a lead or a company that will quote vehicles in restoration?

Hagerty did... Call them & see if they still do.. I use Grundy since Hagerty got bought by a big company so I don't know if they still offer it or not..

I had my car apart for many years with coverage from American Collectors. I don’t recall any issues when first getting coverage and It was totally disassembled when I bought it. Maybe something has changed. Seems a bit odd for a company focused on the collector market.

I did have to provide multiple pics and copies of major receipts when the car was done and I increased the coverage (significantly).

Hagerty

I insured mine for declared value while being restored, had to provide pics and documentation and a written appraisal from a professional appraisal company

I got through to Hagerty and they covered it during the restoration, even though the Body is in one shop, the engine in another, and most of the small parts at my house and storage unit ..... THANKS for the referrals.

Yes, Hagerty. I have one under re-construction with Hagerty. There are other completed cars on the policy and it does note that it is a restoration.

I got mine thru State Farm. Put $20,000 on it from day one, they will raise it to $30,000 once it is completed. $330.00 a year $100
00 deductible. Only catch you have to keep it under 5000 miles a year

I have one of my cars in a rental storage unit. They require insurance on the contents of their units. The car is not running, and is "in process" of being restored, but is just sitting at this point. Hagerty insured it for a very reasonable amount, just for "comprehensive". No liability, collision, or medical.
