Will 71 tranny work in 65?

Have a line on a 71 904 slant 6 tranny. My 65 Dart has 79 318 currently hooked up to 65 904. Want to replace with newer 904 and eliminate extra cable for park (Imperial services bracket should work) Is there any reason this wouldn't work?

The slant 6 and V8 have different bolt patterns.

Ken's right, v8 and /6 trans are not interchangable

Driveshaft will also be different.

Older trans/converter combo has a small snout that fits into the crank flange. Newer trans/converter combo has a big snout. Converters wouldn't interchange because of a difference in trans splines - in case you find a '68 or newer /6 904.
