Apologies, I forgot to mention that this series is all about our 1964 Valiant (two door hardtop).

Oh man sucks to see the engine full of oil crud like that. At first I was going to suggest looking at the fuel pump diaphragm if the oil smells badly like fuel. But after seeing the top end I guess it really doesn’t matter now.

That's a great suggestion, thank you so much! We'll definitely check that, as I don't believe the new motor comes with a fuel pump.

It’s not uncommon on an old slant for the diaphragm to tear and leak fuel in to the crankcase.
