I put the caliper on one side, and found that the rotor was dragging on the shoes. So I wanted to pull the caliper off and put another shim in.

I couldn't get the bolts out. They would spin and spin but not come out. Finally I was able to get them out, but they came out with the threads from the inside of the caliper bracket!

WTF?

When screwing anything into aluminum it is highly recommended to apply a liberal coating of anti seize compound. I found that out the hard way too.

Exactly. Unlike metals like aluminum and steel dont get along well together. Anti-seize helps wonders.

I spoke to tech support at Wilwood, he told me that a) I was the first person who's ever reported something like this, and b) the "clinch nuts" in the caliper bracket are steel, and they shouldn't come out like that. He said he'll send me a bunch of new nuts - they're just pressed into the caliper adapter.

I guess you just have all the luck. :D

If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all.

Where you born under a bad sign?

I was able to get the other side on with no problems... And I got the new master cylinder in with no issues, aside from one leaky brake line (I'm not very good with a flare tool). So I guess it had to be something, I can't have a project involving this car go without any issues!

Mike, remind me not to ever invite you to Vegas. Man, you gotta do something to shake off the bad karma!

You ain't kidding! You don't want to be near me in a casino... I lose, and pretty much everybody around me loses.

You know what I just remembered... When I bought my Duster from the looney who owned it before me, there was a lolipop in the ashtray. He told me it had been there since he bought the car, and it had brought him good luck so I should keep it. The first thing I did when I got the car home was throw it out. Maybe I should've left it.

I remember the blizzard of '78. But then again I was 9.

That line about the 13th of November is from a song:

"I was born on the 13th of November in a storm so bad I still remember.
The cold drivin' rain, my Momma cryin' fram the pain, 'cause she knew my life would be a hard one."

I can't remember the rest of it, though...

I was actually born January 1st.

Here's what came out of the caliper bracket:

And my string of bad luck continues!

I went to bleed the brakes last night... Went to the wheel furthest from the master cylinder to loosen the bleeder so it'd be easy to open & close. Snapped it right off.

Well, one good thing... I went to the local AutoZone looking for new wheel cylinders, the computer said they didn't have any. I asked him to look anyway - he found 2. Perfect!

I probably should've replaced the wheel cylinders a year ago anyway, so this is probably a good thing. I'm gonna try swapping them in tonight, hopefully they'll be no issues.

good luck with the wheel cyl. swap.

be sure you have a good line wrench. that will save you lots of trouble.

Sure do, but I'm sure the lines will fall apart as soon as I go to start taking them off.... 8-[

no, no, wrong thinking pattern.
remember what i told you. lol

Why, exactly, would a Wilwood disc brake setup come with 1-1/2 long wheel studs?

The wheels don't fit on the studs!

:banghead:

What does the length have to do with the wheel not fitting?
Do you mean they are to thick for the wheels?
