Who has done a Wilwood front brake install? How'd it go? How long did it take? Anything to look out for?

I read through the instructions, aside from the safety wire (which I've never done) it looks pretty simple. I'm just wondering if there's any "gotchas" to I need to be aware of.

The AlterKtion uses Mustang II type spindles so it may be a little different, but mine was easy. Make sure the safety wire clears the hub. Get the right length studs before you start. My friend says to cut the rotors... I have to agree, I haven't done it yet but I know they need it.

It came with the studs, they're 1/2 x 20, I think. Why would you have to cut the rotors?

How long did it take you to install that?

Are the studs long enough to pass tech with your wheels?
The surface on the rotors sucks. Cutting trues the rotor.
I spent last winter (2003-2004) putting the AlterKtion in. I don't know how long for the brakes.

They should be... They're longer than the ones I have on my drums, and those pass, so these should be good.

Ah, ok. My neighbor has a lathe, maybe I'll have him clean 'em up before installing them.

The instructions say to make sure the calipers are installed with the bleeder valve pointing up.

These are 4-piston calipers... It looks like there's 4 bleeders on it, 2 on the top and 2 on the bottom. So how would I install these?

Did anybody else notice that the install instructions are wrong? The picture is backwards, it says to remove the rear lower ball joint bolt and not to re-install it. Also the provided bolt for the front lower ball joint is wrong...

And I'm guessing that installing safety wire like the instructions say is kind of important, right?

Instructions? What are they?

Red Loctite and safety wire...

With 4 bleeders the side that they are on doesn't matter.
I left all the bleeders open until the fluid dripped out.
Close all the bleeders.
Bleed as normal using the top bleeders.

Like I said before mine is Mustang II type stuff. I didn't have to touch the ball joint.

Ya know, that piece of paper you turn to when you can't figure out what you're doing?

Red Loctite and safety wire...

I took a look at the parts that the instructions say to safety wire... I'm thinking that it'd be a really good idea to do it, as I don't want the rotor coming apart at the top end of a 110 MPH run. So I'm gonna have to figure out how to do that.

Left them open after everything was all connected and full of fluid?

Do I have to bleed both bleeders on top? Or only one? Or all four?

The dished piece that bolts onto the rotor... Does the dish (the recessed part) go towards the rotor or towards the hub?

The 5 bolts that secure the hub to the rotor... Are they all safety wired together? Meaning, a single wire going through all 5 bolts?

Group 2 and group 3. Much easier and safer.

Safer, maybe. Easy, no. What a pain in the butt!

One side is done, the other can wait until tomorrow...

One more question. The instructions don't say anything about a cotter pin at the end of the spindle to hold the whole deal in place. I would think there should be one there... ?
