Can anyone please help me with installing front and rear windshields? Do I use 3M 8509 Bedding Compound between the bottom of the gasket and the metal? Inside the groove with the glass? Inside the groove that fits around the metal lip around the sides and top? Same for both front and rear?

    THANKS

When I use to do auto glass for a living we just used windex to help the gasket slide over the lip. No sealers. Once it's in air test with compressed air and more windex. If it bubbles on the inside you can cut the tip small on permetex and pump it in from the front. The main deal is having a clean pinchweld to start. A dirty rusty pinchweld will never seal.

Install with Dawn regular dish washing liquid. It seals.

I also rub the inside of tubless race tires down with it. Most use tubes because they always lose air. Try this it works. Rub it on , Mount them they won't leak again. My tires are on the shelf since my car was wrecked they are still aired up. I have been doing this since I was turned on to it for our sprint car. nitrogen is not free but is a must to hold diameter on a sprint car.

Dawn regular dish washing liquid makes installing the windows easy because it stays slick. and then it seals the rubber to the glass. do not use it on the pinch weld.

OP, did you get your windshield installed successfully?

I tried to do mine this afternoon with 8509 between the gasket and pinchweld, and Windo-Weld (butyl rope caulk) in the gasket groove, and ended up tearing the gasket :( Just too tight that way. Should have used a smaller bead of 8509 instead of the too-fat rope caulk... or nothing as other posters said.

Ordering a new gasket, but I think I'll call a pro before I bust the glass too.

I used SuperFast Urethane in a caulk gun from 3M, available at better auto part stores and paint suppliers. A stiff plastic stick to lift the edge of the gasket helps. TEST FIT YOUR TRIM FIRST! Be ready to install it before the urethane seals.
