Hey there...

I got around to taking apart the motor I pulled out of my 68 barracuda convertible(most of you regulars remember helping me with my issues taking out that motor and putting together the new 340, and gettin it installed and running properly)

I have a few books but I am a little confused with the part numbers off the block and the heads that came off the motor that I just dis-assembled...

I am hoping that you guys can let me know the info from the part numbers:

Heads: 4027596
Block: 2465630 - 2

Thanks longgone, thats what I was coming up with...

I was under the impression that the motor was a 318 with 360 heads when i got the car...

Didnt matter because i planned and swapping motors, I just want to know what I have in order to sell it, or build it up later on...

The LA 318`s didn`t appear until 1967 which should show a casting number starting with 26 or 27? The "poly" 318`s preceded the LA series. Look on the front of the block just under the left cylinder head, there should be a number stamped there giving you the displacement.

What I have for engine serial #'s is: The #'s are stamped on the front of the block just below the left cylinder head. This should be a 14 digit #. 1st & 2nd digits for power train, 3-5 being CID, 6th being low compression ratio, 7-10 manufacture date, 11-14 production sequence.

I will have a look by the left cylinder head when i get home and see what the 3-5 numbers say...
