4 Arces? Wadda ya say we chip in for a handful of clapped-out Toyota's and Nissans and we a demo-derby at the B-B-Q? :toothy7:

I think its probably more like 2 acres that are open, The rest is woods. And the landlord lives the next house down. She probably wouldnt like the demo derby idea, All though shes probably so old she wouldnt hear it.

Adam, I was talking to an aquaintance this summer about the subject of high electric bills, and he told me he had his house regrounded, and his bill went down. He had a separate ground line, and ground rod installed. I believe he said it was 15-20 feet away from the original one. I think he said it cost him about $50.
I'm not talking from personal experience, but if it's true, it would be worth it to just have it done. I may be showing my ignorance on the subject, but if it's true and helps anyone, then I don't mind.
You may want to check with some of the FABO electricians about this. Tim

Is it over yet ? Im ready to beat myself in the head with a wrench ! Im bored out of my mind, No work in the carppy weather, bills stacking up and cant do a thing to the car.

New code here is that you must put two copper ground rods in 10' apart.
and each rod is 8' lone, so this could be true :dontknow::-k

Sounds like some good new AdamR:cheers:
The electric bill you have been paying sure sounds bad to have to deal with.

Good deal Adam! Glad to hear your getting out of that old place before it puts you in the poor house.

I found out electric baseboard heat isn't efficient awhile back. I bought some 220v baseboard heaters from a resturant that was being torn down. Got them real cheap. Put them in my garage and they absolutely suck. Went back to propane.

almost 70 today in Indy, Motorcycles and convertibles everywhere, a few classics too

Calling for Rain, freezing rain and snow for tomorrow

I'm ready for a good rain to clean the roads and NO MORE WINTER WEATHER. I will not get my cars out until the roads are clear of the salt

I feel for you on the high electric bills. I lived in a house with a electric heat pump and it didn't work well, the house was always cold and $400 electric bills in the winter (1984~86) The owner would not do anything.

I moved out and the next guy living there got them to install a new gas furnace.

HURRY UP SPRING

Has anyone seen where that guy living in Colorado uses solar, in the day time his electric meter will run backward while his solar is producing electricity! seen this on a PBS or Discovery channel program once!

I would like to have been there when the electric company recieved the bill from him! LOL

Hey Mike! How the heck are ya? Nice pic! Sounds like you got a good deal on the manifold. Glad to hear that your weather isn't worth "wineing" about, lol! 8)

Saturday was 75F, Sunday it snowed 6", this morning it was 12F. Welcome to springtime in the rockies.

Yes, electric heat sucks. Lori has it at her place and it's expensive as hell.

Colorado has 300 days of sunshine a year, so solar hot water and electric is very feasible here. My new house has supplemental solar hot water. Solar electric is still really expensive due to the cost of the panels and batteries, and forget about about running an air conditioner, electric range or welder.

Still though, if you wanted you could design a very effecient house from the ground up and run your meter backwards, and yes in Colorado the power company will pay you for teh electricity you put back into the system.

Adam,

I wouldn't want you to be bored this winter - sure you don't want to do some painting? I will even turn the heat on in the garage!!!

Hope all is good - see you soon but I guess it won't be at Marcus.

Kory

Kory, I heard that Marcus wont be ripped down now. Its to close to wet lands.

Adam is rent that high in CT or just in the city? Sounds like you will save enough to maybe put your own garage up at the new place.
I moved from WA state and even though I had a garage heating it was more than the house, glad to be in TX now.
Good luck with the move,
Bruce

Its that high were I live. Im just outside on NY so we get all the people that work in the city and dont want to pay city rent driving our rent up.

I pay $1900 a month right now for a half acre and 1800sqft.

It's hard to believe all the cold weather you guys write about.I'm in West Texas.Yesterday the wind was blowing and about 75 degrees. This morning the wind was blowing about 40 and we had snow.It cleared up about 4 this afternoon. Tommorrow it's suppose to reach about 70. Everbody stays sick because of temperature swings. I really enjoy this site. First thing I look at in morning and last thing at night.

I enjoy FABO too but I'm not enjoying this:

If you squint, you can see my friend's Scamp shivering next to my Ramcharger. For those who can't squint, here's a close up:

Interesting fact: The Scamp has only been parked there for 11 days, I drove it into that spot on February 24th!!! That's how much snow we get around here. Somebody shoot me... :(

Shooting you isn't necessary: Sending you a U-Haul and a few strong backs is a more reasonable solution.

Sounds like it's about time you told him to shove it. For that kind of money and expense you should have a WARM home. Move to America and get yer money's worth.

I hope it's got plenty of antifreeze.

It's got a ton of insulation anyway! Just ask your closest Eskimo how good an insulator snow can be! :D

PS: We put fresh antifreeze in the car in the fall when the heater core was changed so I guarantee it's doing fine. :)

Well I have to say Im a little sad to be leaving such a big beautiful house but I'll be glad not to have to pay for it. I'll also be happy to not spend all day cleaning it.

The Landlord was a little shocked when I told him we would be out at the end of the month. O'well, Maybe when the next tenants complain about the high electric bill he will look in to ways to lower it.
