Anyone running this cam in a 318. The motor is 100% stock except for the 340 intake and Thermoquad and 340 exhaust manifolds. 904, currently stock converter and 7.25" rear likely has 276 gears

It should run great.

Throw in a set of Rhoades lifters and it will run even better.

Yes, D250, 9.25" 3.55's, 904 Lockup, Ed Performer, 600cfm, 302's mild port + match, 1 5/8" Headers with two mufflers no H, Mopar electronic orange, 12 initial, 34 total and Comps recommended springs retainers and locks.

Good cam, hi vacum, smooth idle, lots of low end grunt and surprised me on the top end.

Have you bought the cam yet Adam? If not, shoot me a PM.

According to the camquest program, the 256 has 3x the useable torque curve over the next largest (the 262), and is only 10 HP less at peak.

I've always though it would be a great improvement over stock without needing to change anything else.

The first of my 318s that I will get into already has headers, and I found a great deal on the Summit single pattern 6901, so I got that, but I'm very anxious to see the 256 in a light car.

What is the estimated HP gain using this cam over a stock 318 2-bbl cam in the OPs setup? How will MPG be affected?

The 7 1/4 will be fine with that combo. My '72 challenger came with a 7 1/4 and I beat it mercilessly and it never failed. One legger burnouts up a hill 100 yards long. In my '70 dart I don't have that cam but an old purple shaft that is .450 lift [email protected] duration in a stock '81 318 with performer 318/360 and big TQ off a 440. Runs real strong. Has home ported smog pump 318 heads and a four speed in front of a 7 1/4 for now.

What are the cam specs for the two cams? Stock 318 2bbl and the XE256?

The stock engine specs vary depending on what year 318 your talking about. He does not specify what year his is.

But the xe256 will make a nice driver / fun car for the street and work with his low rear end gear. It will have a nice pull under acceleration.

The motor is a 73. Stock 318 cam specs are real small, Like 190 @.050" range and .399" lift

I have a lot of interest in this thread. I have a bone stock 318 72 Dart Swinger, 904, 2.76 gear that needs some help. I too was thinking a cam and 4bbl was in my future...... Would love to know how this works for you!

I was thinking about this cam.....

Lunati VooDoo
Hydraulic. Best mild performance cam. Works excellent in fuel injection applications with performance chip. Makes approximately 19 vacuum at idle. Great for performance oriented marine applications and heavy towing applications. Perfect Street Rod cam. Has slightly noticeable idle.

Here's an oldie-but-goodie. I think with your stock-compression & stock-valve sprung' 318 the 73' 340 cam from Rockauto would be sweet.

SEALED POWER Part # CS644
Hydraulic; (050) Duration at .050 Lobe Lift; 210 Int.; 220 Exh.; 114 Degrees Lobe Separation; 0.442" Exh. Valve Lift; 0.429" Int. Valve Lift...........$120.79

Its getting new valve springs. I have to do valve seals so they will be off, May as well change them. Comp 901 are cheap, so are the Edelbrock springs. The whole cam kit, cam, lifters, springs, timing chain valve stem seals locks and retainers is $350
