Can the small pinion yoke from a 7 1/4 rearend be used with the 741 8 3/4 rearend? They are both 1 3/8 pinions.

Are you asking can you unbolt the yoke off of a 7 1/4 and use it on a 8 3/4 pinion? If so the answer is no, I've tried that in the past, different shaft size.

Jack, are you referring to the 741 you got from me? I think I may have a yoke tucked away somewhere if you need one for 1 3/8 pinion.

That's the one Darren. I finally got it apart. I took the yoke off of a 7 1/4 I have here and the only difference I could see was the splines were different and the stem took a larger nut on the 7 1/4, go figure?

Just curious Jack. You said the splines were different and the 7-1/4 took a bigger nut. Is the spline on the 7-1/4 a 29 spline and the 8-3/4 a 10 spline? I've heard that the 10 spline takes a smaller nut than the 29 spline. Would just like to know for reference.

That's what the difference was Tracy. Although I have a couple of 741 pinions here that take the 29 spline yoke. I didn't count them though. The nut from the 7 1/4 did fit the 8 3/4 29 spline pinion.

Thanks for the update Jack. So it sounds like the 7-1/4 may use the same yoke as long as the spline count is the same.
