Farming!! These cars can't hold a candle to it. :angry4:

Things have really changed over the last 5-10 years.

how much are tractors? ive always wondered  do u end up getting alot back though when you harvest correct?

It depends on what size. I know that you can drop around 25 to 30K on a used tractor. Add a couple 10k for a new one. But, you need more than just a tractor. You'll have to harvest your crop. Expect to drop another 150K for a used combine. New ones are upwards of 200 to 250K. And then there is implements to work the ground. Then there's the seed to put in the ground. Oh yeah, you have to have the ground to plant in. Then theres the fuel and maintenance to keep the equipment running. The fertilizer and herbicides to make sure the crop grows right.

So when you say "getting a lot back" from harvest. It's like a drop in an ocean. So now you know why I feel the farmer is way under appreciated. Give your local farmer a hug, he's keep us all fed.

Flatlander, what's the wheat look like down there. Around here it's good as done. If the farmers around here didn't have their wheat insured they're going to take a bath.

i do remember hearing "you dont go into farming cause of the money" its more of a intrest/family thing, dang thats expensive for a combine :tongue9:

I don't know what the Deeres are going for, but I know our Gleaner, Massey, and Challenger Class VIII combines are going for around 300K. These things are huge hulking masses that inhale crops. They usually are equiped with a 35' header.

Just for size comparison, here is a Gleaner A85. The front drive tire is about 6' tall.

Depends on what stage it was in. The wheat in the boot(planted earliest) is down and dead. Luckily we have some of the later wheat and it wasn't hurt as bad, I pray.

Your right about the price of equipment, fert., fuel, seed, chemical. Add on to that escalating property tax. I should have stayed in grad. school. :-|

tractors are expensive too, the farm i work is waiting for our new 300hp deere that lists for about 190K (lots of options such as powershift, power take off, 3 point hitch, and GPS). We have one tractor bigger than this one, and 3 more that are close to 200 hp.
