Englistown closed

Yup...they're still doing all other events (swap meet, car shows, motorcycle hills, mud trucks)etc. My feeling is that this was the end of the line after all the people bought up cheap properties and built communities (similar to those buying houses near an airport) and then complain about the noise (quality of life) blah blah blah...

Sorry to hear about your track closing. Happened here to but someone came in, bought and re-opened it.

Fratzog saw and couldn't resist giving you your 5K "liked"

The closing of drag racing @ Englishtown has far reaching affects . Now there is a void in the NHRA championship trail as well as NHRA division I . Old Bridge Park is one of the best drag racing tracks in the WORLD . This is a hugh blow . I attended all but one of the Mopar events there as a vendor and a racer . A beautiful facility . I fully understand their decision as pro and bracket racing is declining in popularity and is becoming a circus like NASCAR . The production costs must be astronomical let alone catering to those prima donnas with their 7 or 8 53' big rigs . I could go one for hours about this .

Thats what happens when the land is worth so much money and you are battling the new comers. they closed 75-80 raceway here in Md to bulid houses. It reopened for a year or two but now it's in limbo because there is a problem with the land purking from what I hear but it's not going to reopen. I had a lot of good times at Englishtown sorry to see it go but on the bright side street racing will get big again.

Didn't know it at the time but this is from the last couple of runs to go down the strip

So my Englishtown story - walking through the Mopar meet way back when it was still good with my buddy Jan. We turn the corner and there's a pair of Lil' Red exhaust pipes in a 55 gal trash can, have the tabs for the stainless shields. We have a friend with a 70 Lil' rad at home, so we grab them out of the trash. Months later, there's the pic of the pipes in one of the magazines. Caption says .... "these disappeared just after we took the picture."
I had other good buys there - 20 years ago.

That SUCKS always had a good time racing there and meeting up with people we only saw when going there:(:(:(

People are morons. Seen tracks closed because of noise. Don't build your house by a race track idiot if you don't like noise. Why do these people always win.

Who knows what was coming up but I haven't heard anything in years. I'm not to far and Usually you would hear when they had these problems with the noise. Seems like it was just a money Thing. Also sounds like this was a long time brewing. It sucks. I started going There as a kid around 88-89. I'm 38 i started bringing my kid 2-3 years ago.
We got a vip suite right next to the announcers office with his cub scout troop for the night of thrills last year. He would come in with the Mic and ask the kids some questions, and play the sound of the room of the kids going CRAZY. It was really cool. When we went in all the monster truck drivers and crew were in There sucking up the ac, hung out with them for a bit. There was about 20 cub scouts and one or 2 brownies.
There is also some truth to that thing about kids not wanting to drive. I know people with kids that don't have a licence and are out of high school. They do in fact use uber to get around. It blows my mind. One of them things Windows and does detailing and car audio. hooks people's cars up but can't be bothered having his own car. Makes decent money too.

The same thing happened to Old Dominion Raceway in Manassas, Virginia. Known as the oldest track on the East Coast. Condo's were up DAYS after closure. A neighborhood blog rejoiced and complained days on end about the noise. I guess if you buy property near a drag strip, eventually you will succeed in closing it down.
Buy property near a lake and you can eventually have boats and jet ski's banned as well.

Wear a leather jacket and drive a Harley. You're a Hell's Angel
Openly support police; you're a racist
Complain about muscle cars older than 2017 driving up and down the street; the towns will put the police out there to pull you over due to "complaints"
How many times does Congress push bills to outlaw drag racing or to surrender your old car due to emissions?
How about cash for clunkers?
Eventually, the millenials will succeed and drag racing, classic car enthusiasm will be a crime.

Effective immediately, it's on the site.
Totally disgusting the way it was handled . I have competed there the last couple of years in their index program and was looking forward to doing so this year. Here's a picture from the last 11.50 index points race, the car in the other lane is being driven by the now X office manager for Raceway Park

This is largely a incorrect assumption. Drag racing is down. Costs are up, someone came in and offered the family a deal dollar wise that was to good to pass up. The track was not profitable. It was able to stay open due to the other motorcycle, dirt tracks on the property. The drag strip by itself could not have stayed open onits own.
They are now a spot to house cars for the auction house.

The people of the towns surrounding E-town worked with E-town and the local government for a good and decent sound and operating solution.
Most peopleI know in the surrounding areas liked the track even if the noise was a pain. They understood that for the most part, they were there firsthand they just wanted a decentquality of life living near by. NOT drag racing @ 3:00 am with top fuel and open headers.

This si NOT the case. Read above.
