Well, finally but the bullet and put down the cash for a new riding mower today. We've had several john deere mowers in the past, but my son has been doing his research and asked if I could get him a cub cadet to mow and pull the small lawn trailer with. We only mow an acre, the cattle maintain the rest. He was looking at the xt1 that home depot sells, but I am surprising him with the xt2 with full bearing front axle, v twin fuel injection instead of the single cylinder xt1. Fully fabricated lifetime warranty 46" deck instead of the 42" stamped on the xt1. Lol. He is at work and has not even seen it in my shop yet. He's going to poop himself when he goes out there tomorrow. The dealer I bought it from even threw in a couple cadet hats, 3 year full warranty. Its a Cadillac for sure. Fastest mower I've ever driven. Lol. It's the 2018 model, close out sale for $2300

What? No pictures? Hell if I got me a 45 million dollar lawn mower, I'd be showin it off.

Had to lol on that one !
I have been using a john deere riding mower for 8 yrs. , already had to replace the transaxle , I don't think the brake system was adjusted right from the factory , and put undue stress on the whole mess. When I put the new one in , I had to adjust the brakes way down compared to the original , shift/stops better than new--------
Next time I`ll be looking for a zero turn , probly a 40/42. Would love to find a single blade 40 '' , when they get some age on them, the single blade will do a prettier job than a dual blade. jmo--I`ve had both.

I'll get some pics up today. By the time we got it home and out of the back of the truck it was pouring rain and getting dark. It felt like I was putting out 45 million dollars for it. Lol. But with that kind of cash it shouldn't need me to drive it too. Lol. I don't think my son will let me drive it much anyways . Pics to come shortly. The brakes on my John Deere are crappy too, surge drives all the time too, only starts a third of the time without issues. I'm ready for a good reliable mower.

I've been super happy with my "customer return" 2001 Craftsman 17HP Kohler single 42", although in the past 3 years it's been starting to have "old mower" issues.

Yeah I saw the craftsman mowers, mtd, husqvarna, Murray, etc. Theres even alot of nice john deere mowers for decent prices. But when you start to compare them to each other, it becomes pretty obvious that paying $1500 for a 36" deck, 15hp, non hydrostatic, stamped deck, 2 year limited warranty, no efi, isnt the best option for the usage we put on our equipment. Yeah, its $700 more for the cadet on sale. But heck if I opted for the additional warranty on the Murray mower I'm paying the same price dang near for the bigger unit with all the bells and whistles and I get a better unlimited 3 year warranty. And if you want the equivalent to it in a deere then your looking at nothing less than the s240 for $2800. And if you want the extended warranty, it's free from deere if you promise to use only them for services. At hundreds per year for the services.

Good morning. We bought a new Poulin Pro from Home Depot last spring. With maybe 5 hours total run time, first calendar year of warranty is gone. Sux don't it?

Yes, that would suck totally. The cadet dealer told me they offer an extended warranty that adds 2 years for a total of five years. He said he's never sold an extended warranty to anyone, says its a total waste of money. He said if it's going to have issues it will be obvious in the first six months. Plus he said its almost $500 for the warranty. Said if we were dumb enough to buy it he would sell us the extra warranty. I opted out of that. Very blunt, honest guy from what I gathered talking to him.

Most any warranty is a ripoff. The mfgrs have done the testing and refining to know their product will last to just past the warranty period, be it 2 years, 5 years, whatever. Sheds light on why extended warranties are so expense too.
A run hour clock or odometer based warranty would make much more sense on something of limited seasonal use like lawn mower, snow blower, etc...

Just the way my brain works but...

Why does it have to be both a "cub" and a "cadet"?

Seems redundant as both imply a junior status.

I've wondered that since the first time I saw one in the 70's.

The dealer said if we stay up on oil changes every 50 hours, it needs a full time up every two years.

nice! that's one sweet looking machine. we dumped our Husqvarna a few years ago. we have a Very hilly acre with some other challenges. after rebuilding the front end more than once for **** bushings, spindles and so on we went with a much larger deere to handle it. never understood why they bush the front wheels and make the spindles so flimsy.

I purchased the XT1 a few years ago. This will be the third season and I am happy with the performance however I noticed that the rear axle is leaking at both axle seals coming out of the diff. Looks like 1 sealed unit and no provision to check/add fluid. Going to have to figure something out but this should not be after a few years.

I have to go take a look at mine. I know that they use the same frame for the xt1, xt2 and xt3. Not sure if they all share the same rearend or not. If you are in your 3rd year season did you get it with the 3 year warranty? Unless of course like my luck goes, it happens just out of warranty. Dicksmidlac, if you are ever interested in selling that little cadet, please let me know. I have been looking for one for awhile now, and only find beat down p.o.s parts missing all over projects. The annual tractor show is coming up, so I'll be searching there again for sure.

Looks nice. I have a JD LX178 that I’ve had for 22 years! I’d love a bigger one, but it is still going strong.

We have a 1986 deere 160, and a similar year deere 316 with vacuum operated bagger. Both great mowers when they are going, just got so tired of them being iffy on starting, stopping, and putting money into a dying machine. Sure, if it was an A-body car, I'd pump countless dollars into it. Lol, different addiction I guess. I told my son its time to get the Deeres sold and put that money into our mopars. Of course he wants to keep his 160. Hello, my name is penstarpurist and I have raised a fellow pack rat hoarder of cars, tractors and other forms of rusty metal and faded plastic parts............I'm so proud of him.

I like that. Good old lawn tractor style. I have a zero turn TORO and I cannot stand it. I sold my Troy Bilt law tractor to my sister several years ago and wish I hadn't.

I have a 2006 cub GT3200 . I bought it new to help with the landscaping when we built our house. The things a small dozer, you chain it up and it will move some dirt .
I've had to replace to rear ends . 1 my fault pushing it to hard and the second Cub Cadet failing to instruct how to use differential lock. It doesn't work like a big tractor and if not used correctly will shear teeth in the diff. Nothing about the differential lock in the manual or on line . Both fixes about $3000. a piece . The bagging system sucks has never worked well clogs up, but all in all it has exceeded what it was built for. Its too bad Cub sold out to MTD.

I agree mostly with warranty thing , but they just replaces the entire motor. pulley/ belt assembly, with electronics in my wifes dryer, paid off this time !

I`m wondering how old you guys mowers are, john deere bought out most all the lawnmower brands around here yrs ago , never see murrays, mtd`s hardly ever, and all the offshoots that were cheaper.. They bought out about 6-7 diff. brands > ???

I used to haul for Northern Tool and one of my regular loads came out of the MTD plant in the Carolinas.

I'd stand 20' from the asembly line and watch MTD, Cub Cadet, Husky, Poulan, Craftsman and about five others come down the line together to be boxed and shipped to stores all over the US and Canada.

Very nice.

I use a 2007 John Deere gx255 with 54” deck. We bought it when we moved in back in 07. 20 hp Kawasaki on it. Thing runs awesome and I have beat the hell out of it over the years. Have close to 500 hours on it now. I do a full tune up/ oil change and new blades every spring.

Pic isn’t mine but the same model I found on the net.
