You can't go by that. The only true way to know if everything is kosher is to use an axle narrowing tool. It's all about the bearing centers lining up. Those sheet metal housings twist and bow when welded from the factory. That's why the ends are welded on last.

LMAO! I think he wants to know how to put innards from the 741 into the 742. I believe the only thing you can swap over is the carrier. If it's a one legger the cost of the swap is not worth it. If its a sure grip then go for it.

My question to the OP is why a T5? Do you already have the trans? If not, I wouldn't waste your money on a T5 and go straight for a Tremec TKO.

I see, I didn't realize there was a step on the pinion. I was going to swap in a cone style from a 741 case and then sell the assembly but i think it might be better for me to just sell the 741 setup compete and then sell the 742 housing.

So I ran into a snag trying to weld this in, but quickly rectified the situation. I haven't used my TIG in this garage yet and realized I didn't have a 50a/240v outlet. A quick trip to Home Depot and I now have a new outlet. Welding then commenced.

Well you've covered my ideas and done what I would of done. The only other thing that could be going on is somehow there's pressure getting into the TCC circuit or the convertor clutch somehow fused itself to the clutch plate in the convertor.

This banging in gear issue has me thinking. Sounds like the converter is locked up. What have you done to test that out?

I actually followed your install. Very well documented. I would love to go with a 200R4 but I came across this setup for cheap money. If I went with the 200R4 I would want one from extreme automatics. Pricey but the best builder.

For everyone that has this transmission, I'm curious as to what they did with their torsion bar crossmember. I've searched through many threads but have only come across one with pictures. I'm looking to see what people did (pictures) and how the crossmember has been holding up since.

Buschi, so what was the problem with the 340 that you had to dent the headers? I'm concerned now because I don't want to dent up my nice new Doug's headers. Was it a clearance problem with the bell housing or the transmission itself?

I don't remember Buschi having to relocate tubes on his headers. If that's the case then my R-154 trans swap is going no where cause I don't want to ruin my new Doug's headers. Is Buschi's a right hand drive? He does live in Europe you know and that would make sense about the headers.
