New car finally hitting the track: estimates?

Rocco- Got it 7272 GVOD, makes sense now: First time out, going with 11.5 to 12, built a lot like my 71. I see it going much faster once you get the bugs out, guessing 11's flat. Keep us posted.

New car finally hitting the track: estimates?

456 and those tires 28's - trap will be about 6300/6400. Is that what the engine is built for?

FlyFish - Yes, it does help and thank you, I will keep working on the chassis, I do believe that is where a lot goes. BTW, I enjoy your threads, congratulations on your race -

    Finally broke into 11's

451 - Thanks, I like the heater hose idea. I have one of the spark-plug wire insulators on it now, seems to be just an oven wrapper for the cable. 318/Crack - Agree - tune, tune, tune. One issue is in sprigs, DA is 5200, by now it is 6200, mid summer it will be 6800/7200. Tunes change...

    Finally broke into 11's

318 - Elevation is roughly 4800, density altitude was 6200/6300. I agree if it was sea level times would be a lower.

    Finally broke into 11's

Well - 11:98 at the Fallon TopGun Raceway last night. Nice thing is DA last night was a bit higher than 6000. My goal is to have a car which is street legal (cruiser) and can hit 11:49 for my area. Two seasons ago I started the car as a learning/therapy fun project, just a big block Dart, no...

    Jegs Windage tray

OKtIre - I have one in my motor now, no issues and actually liked the part. I bought mine directly from Jegs brand new?

Good Day at TnT - any feedback?

Finally got out to TnT yesterday to check the changes in the car and had a bit of fun while at it. By the end of the day had the car right at 12 flat, still had a more in it. Track was at 5000 DA, here is what I figured out. Timing - wow this thing loves it, maybe its just the altitude 40...

New 440 Build - Ignition Question

Rob - I built a motor almost exactly like yours with the exception I used 906 heads. Motor ran well, dynoed very nicely. In the car I used a MP distributor and orange box and started having problems. Engine would heat, and couple of small other gremlins. Took to the track, first few runs...

Anyone running a th400 in their a body?

Junior - I did - mine was only seven months. While waiting, I rebuilt my 727, I will be putting the glide behind my 451. please keep me posted on your build, and good luck. Bakerlite - I did actually look at Reid. I am doing a low budget build, I ground off the Powerglide housing. My...

    Header flow numbers

Bob - thanks, what I was looking for. Any 2"? Seems everyone really likes the TTI's, is there something else in BB Dart world that is better?

    Header flow numbers

I did a search and did not find much on this topic, so bear with me. I have a 440 with Schumacher Tri-Ys. Great for a conversion, but I would suspect they are restrictive. Welds around ports are large and a bit restrictive. I would suspect if I went with Fenders or TTI's I would see and...

    Stall Speed Recommendation

All - Thank you very much, took much of your insight and tried to apply it. I purchased a 4500K convertor and rebuilt the trans with a bolt-in sprag and Red Eagle/Kolene items. I had a nice reverse manual VB already, so just re-used it. The car is factory weight so a guess would put it @...

I am rebuilding my 727 putting a new convertor in my 71 Dart (Factory Weight) with a 440/727. The engine Im guessing is about 400-425 (.30 74 truck motor, 915 heads (no work just 2.14's and large exh valves, decked) .540 hydraulic roller cam, M1, HP Ultra HP and MSD ignition locked out and a...

Anyone running a th400 in their a body?

Junior, I noted in your first thread you stated waiting for "J.W. to ship." How long you been waiting. I ordered from Jegs in about early September 2013 from JW and it has been on back order since. I was told the 24th January it will ship. I thought of going with another company, however I...

Gotcha!, pretty common, all motors I have built I used Felpros, they are all the same. I asked engine gurus and they say the same. Also all I have read are the same, Andy Finkbeiners book eludes to it as well. As for the rust - The block\heads were brand new clean (tanked, etc...) Well I...
