    360 Already Bored .030

Thanks for the help guys. Gonna take it to the machine shop and have them look at it.

    360 Already Bored .030

So the early blocks are thicker? Sorry for asking, I've been a Ch**y racer for 35 years!!

    360 Already Bored .030

That was my next step, having it checked out. If it's too far gone, I might consider a 383 a local guy is selling.

    360 Already Bored .030

My '72 360 has already been bored .030, and there's a bit of a ridge in the cylinders. It was rebuilt stock many years ago. Would it be safe to bore it another .010? Bummer is, I already bought a set of .030 over KB191's for it, and I'm concerned putting them in with the ridge there.

    KB191's In A Stock Motor

I decided to keep the 360. I doubt I'll come out ahead swapping to a 383, with the added weight, having to change the mounts and torsion bars, buying new headers, ect. I am checking into stroker kits, though.

    KB191's In A Stock Motor

I might be working out a deal on a 383 for my cuda. So, I thought I would throw my 360 together and sell it. My question: How well would a 360 run with stock rotating assembly, KB191's, stock smog heads, and a really mild cam? Would I need to worry about the compression being too high? With...

    Swirl Port or 4051's

Saw a local ad for a pair of 308 swirl port heads, bare castings, checked for cracks. He wants $200 for them. Will they perform any better on my 360 drag motor or should I stick with my 4051's? Motor is a 360 LA.

    KB 191's And a 1051 Head

Got to thinking. If I run these KB 191 pistons, will it run the compression high enough to start detonation? I believe my stock flat tops were around 8.4:1 with the piston .8" down in the hole.

    KB 191's And a 1051 Head

I've never been able to find a set of 15's here in Indiana. Summit doesn't list them either.

    KB 191's And a 1051 Head

This car was actually set up for 1/8 mile drags. I thought about dropping to a 4.10 or 4.33 gear, with a 3000 stall conv. Could bump up the tire size a tad, but the car is still running the small bolt pattern so I'm limited to a 14" tire.

    KB 191's And a 1051 Head

I'm getting ready to hang my KB 191's on my rods. It's a .030 over 360 with I'm sure no deck shaving. Will I run into any issues running those pistons with my current 1051 heads? I'd love to buy a set of X or J heads, or even aftermarket heads, but I just don't have $1500 to spend right now...

    500 HP on Low Compression

I had a guy tell me the other day he could get a 360 small block LA to push 500 HP with 8.5:1 compression and no nitrous. I call crap on this one. Any possible way?

    ID Pistons

I don't like the fact that the pistons sit .095 below deck height. I'll probably get the KB107's or similar, and shave a set of J heads. We'll see if that gets me closer to the 9.8:1 compression I'd like to be at.

    ID Pistons

Yeah, they're probably stock replacements. I'll end up replacing them. It's already bored .030 over, not a lot more room to go.

    ID Pistons

I just can't seem to ID the new pistons in my motor. Its a 1972 360 truck motor, all rebuilt, don't know if stock or what. The pistons are flat tops, a small indentation ring in the middle, .030 over punched on the flat top, the B-200 cast on the inside of the skirt, and some hash marks cast...

    Flat Top Pistons

I'm getting parts together for my LA360 build and noticed that hardly any companies carry dome pistons. The flat tops in the motor now are fairly new but I don't know where they came from. They are true flat tops with no valve reliefs. Are there different flat tops that raise the compression...

shopping for 360 engine block what to look for…?

I've had people tell me that years don't really matter on LA blocks. True? I have a 1972 short block with 1977 heads I'm planning on rebuilding.

    Piston Clearance

I'd throw some nitrous in it, but I'm not sure if the cast pistons will take the heat!

    Piston Clearance

Now if I run the magnum heads, say the '88-'91 heads, I can run my old intake, right? I know a guy that has some 340 heads, if he'll sell them. he's been sitting on them for years.

    Piston Clearance

It's going in my 69 Barracuda weekend racer. I'm trying to build a 360 on a reeeaally tight budget. The motor has already been rebuilt, but to stock specs. I think the pistons are Speed Pro units, which some claim to be around 9.5/1 with a smog head. I'm doubting that. I'm guessing with my...

    Piston Clearance

Nothing wrong with these pistons, but I doubt they're for a hi-po application. Might swap them for some forged ones. Still thinking of domes, especially if I have to run my current heads. If I zero deck the block, that's a lot of metal to grind off.

    Piston Clearance

Well, my buddy didn't believe me either. So he came over and brought his measuring instruments with him. He checked my mic and found that somewhere along the way I messed it up. It was .130" off. He then mic'd my clearance, and found it to be .125" below deck. Still sounds high, but I'm used to...

    Piston Clearance

I was checking clearances on my 360. My crank was already turned .010 recently, so I think just a fresh set of bearings will do it. But, I checked the pistons, and they're like a quarter inch down the more or more at TDC!! And these are flat tops, .030 over. Is that normal? No wonder the...

    360 Heads?

4071051's are standard smog 360 heads. I have a set on the shelf.

Are the Hughes cams made for lower compression engines? How are they with smog heads?

    Increase in Ethanol?

Looks like Country Mark is a good spot for me. The only issue is that its an un-manned station, so credit cards have to be used. I'm worried about about the fuel lines in my '89 F150. I only drive it when I need to haul something, so it does sit a lot. With 82,000 miles on it, it has a long...

    Gonna Experiment With 4071051's

I just thought it would be fun to try. The motor was given to me, so I have nothing to lose. The guy that sold me the Barracuda had it sitting in the corner of his garage, said it came out of a parts car. I tore it down and found that someone had rebuilt it using stock parts.

    Gonna Experiment With 4071051's

I'm going to experiment with a set of 4071051 heads. Anyone else work with these heads? About 10 years ago, I got a junk yard 350 Chevy, rebuilt it with flat pistons, smog heads, around 8.5/1 compression, and got the car running in the 12's. Not bad for having about $700 in the motor. I know...

    ? on Head machining

Stock rebuilt 1972 block, .030 over, flat tops, crank turned .010 on mains and rods, ARP bolts. I'm going to run a .497 lift cam, roller rockers, Air Gap intake, 750 Holley, Super Comp headers, 904 trans, 3800 stall conv (the car is set up for a 4-speed right now). Already have 4.56 SG 8-3/4...
