That kills the motor. Lol. We were plaing with it and closed the choke and it died. Just need to tweak with timing I'm guessing.....

Not sure on timing but the distributor is off the old 2bbl 318 and the vacuum is plugged into the base below the throttle blades.

Ok, got that squared away and now onto figuring out why I have a high idle in park and a stumbling / weak idle in gear...... And no vac leaks I can see.....

Ok so I'm tying up the loose ends on the 340 and the large 1/2 inch vac tube on the passenger side of the carb goes to what? Emissions were removed prior to my ownership.

I agree if you have a 340, at the least an 8.25 rear is required.....

Timing was an absolute bugger to set/ get it to stop idling so dang high and not die when in gear. But now, now it lives, just need to break it in....

Thanks, was the wife's idea on the valve covers. Need to be touched up though. Bolting on the hood and getting timing dialed in today.

Got the engine to fire up on Saturday. Now it is time to swap fluids and all the fun stuff. We had a massive scare with the fan shroud getting nicked and sounding like valve train noise. We were worried until we figured that one out....

So does anyone make an aluminum oil pan for a 340 that will be going into a 72 dart?

Well, the 340 is progressing. Crank needed to be ground, heads needed a FULL tear down and rebuild. The machine shop is balancing the crank to be internally balanced from external. A comp xe 268 cam is going in. Have the stock manifold and freshly rebuilt ThermoQuad sitting in the garage...

I have one of those sitting in my garage waiting to be installed. ;)
