Will 67 10 front brakes work on 66?

Took the front 10 inch drum brakes, backing plates, shoes, drums, hoses, ( minus the hubs) to a swap meet, guy was wondering if they would fit a 66 a-body, they are off of a 67 Dart. Told him that my understanding was that it would bolt on 10 drum spindles, but not 9 inch drum spindles. Told...

    8 1/4 brake interchange

I have an 8 1/4 rear out of a Volare, will the brake parts(backing plates, drums, etc.) interchange with an a-body 8 1/4? What about the gears? If so all I would need would be the axles and housing correct? Thanks Aaron

Drilling new rotor holes for Scarebird

The scarebird kit comes with a centering ring to center the rotor o the hub. I drilled mine using a harbor freight type small drill press and the paper pattern(I made a couple of copies of the paper pattern to keepfor future reference). I did have one hole that was off a little and needed a...

anybody have comparison pics between 8 1/4 and 8 3/4 drum backing plates??

Would there be any interest in a set of backing plates off of an 8 1/4 volare rear? I got one just sitting in the weeds.

    Leaky adjustable proportioning valve

Mine was from Right Stuff(via Summit)too. If I remember right the fitting did take a metric wrench.

    Leaky adjustable proportioning valve

Looks like the same valve I got with the same problem. I bought a SSBC valve to replace it with but haven't got around to replacing it yet.

    Scarebird Disc - What Master?

I used DBMC15 master cylinder from Right Stuff(ordered through Jegs). I also used the 2 piece front to rear brake line from the Right Stuff and an adjustable proportioning valve. I went with that master cylinder on Right Stuffs recommendation.

    brake lines.

Yep brother ran it in his mod. Not sure if the plastic line is DOT approved(if you care about that sort of thing). I think braided brake line is plastic liner with an outer braided cover. All that being said I wouldn't run the plastic on my car.

    Scarebird Conversion Almost Complete

I have about 300 miles on my scarebird brakes (can I call them Kelsey Hayes, because I used KH calipers?) and love em. Do need to pull the driers side back apart as 2 studs where welded in and I thought they pressed in ok, but when I went to put the wheel on those two studs were wobbly, so I...

    another Scarebird question

Got it done and leaks stopped and bled. Took it out for a test, seems to work good, but the rotors are getting hot, is this normal? thanks Aaron

    adjustable proportioning valve question

yep that's the fitting. Think I have some of that paste. Will give that a try and then rebleed the brakes. Dang, does the "re"doing things ever end! Thanks Aaron Just remembered the other question I had. Which way is less brake and which way is more brake on the valve? Screwed in/out?

    adjustable proportioning valve question

I am doing the scarebird disc brake kit, replaced the one piece line to the rear with a 2 piece line and installed a right stuff adjustable prop valve, if feels like I am getting a little seepage (leak) where the brass fitting goes into the prop valve, the fitting screwed in tight against the...

    Brake replacement/refresh question

In the process of doing a scarebird disc brake kit on my 67 GT and that looks like the master cylinder I used. I'm no expert but from what I have read, the disc/drum master cylinders have one big reservoir and one little reservoir where the drum/drum master cylinders have 2 equal sized...

    another Scarebird question

I did see that the bolt that goes through the ball joint and threads into the spindle just barely clears the rotor, I will keep on eye on it and if it contacts it will find someone with a lathe and have them take just a little bit off of the inner lip of the rotor. Aaron

    another Scarebird question

Started installing my scarebird kit, the instructions say to mount one bolt backwards of what it originally mounts, by the pics I have seen this is the lower rear bolt(atleast on my spindles)that goes through the ball joint and is threaded into the spindle, then has a thin locknut. Does it...

    Do Proportioning Valves Wear Out?

Hope that this isn't too far off of topic...Did any A-bodies have a combination valve(proportioning valve and distribution block, all in one). From looking at catalogs there was a hold off valve inline to the rear brakes on disc brake cars, which would serve the same purpose as a prop valve...

    10" brake hub, replace or?

I got a scarebird front brake kit and have all the parts I need coming. My question is at least one hub has a couple of the lug studs welded in. Should I just replace both hubs or have the studs and weld machined off and pressed out and replaced. To me since they were welded in indicates that...

    another Scarebird question

Cool, been looking for replacement 10" drums for the back and can't seem to find new. Been thinking possibly of rear discs, but a kit for the 7 1/4 is probably as scare as the new drums. I have seen reference to a rear disc kit from Scarebird but don't see anything on their website. Thanks...

    another Scarebird question

Bit the bullet and ordered the kit. May have to either replace one front hub or take it to the machinist because some of the studs where welded in. Decided that in all reality as much as I would like aftermarket wheels I probably will not buy any unless I run across a super deal(cheap!). Will...

    another Scarebird question

Been trying to decide on discs, would like to keep my options pen for aftermarket wheels, which won't fit on scarebird. If I go 73 & up, need to change rearend. Almost jumped on some KH sbp brakes in the for sale section until I looked at the price of calipers on rock auto. Thanks Aaron

    another Scarebird question

Been thinking (obsessing)over what to do for a disc brake conversion on my 67 Dart (10 drums). Right now it is between the scarebird kit or 73 and up. Couple questions on scarebird, are the parts easily and redily available? Did a disc brake kit on a 51 Plymouth (think it was a Ply-do kit)...

    master cylinder question

no booster. Part number matchs up, to manual 10" drums all they way around. Got the front brakes done, working on the...

    master cylinder question

Oops, sorry. 67 Dart with 10" drums all the way around. Here are the pics. From left to right, the master that was on it when I bought it 20 years ago, the one I replaced about 10 years ago, the new one. From the backside. Close up of the tab, and the sheetmetal cup thing. Thanks Aaron

    master cylinder question

Have a new master cylinder and have a few questions. The new master cylinder is Cardone 13-1323M, it has a different lid than both of the previous master cylinders did, the previous master cylinders had what I could best describe as double hump lids, with a single bolt and a spreader bar (m...
