    I had a 7 1/4 in a stock '86 Gran Fury driving down the road after a hard lunch one day "snap".On the dissection,I found that not only did the Differential pinion shaft break,I split the Differential itself in half.Along with a few Pinion gear teeth.

    The A999 is basically a A904 with a Lock Up Torque Converter.The simple way to tell the two apart is the Input Shafts.The A999 will have a machined nub on the end.The gear ratios are all the same.As far as the fender tag and casting numbers I don't have the answer to that.

    I would go with the type F.I have found that the Dexron III fluid tends to wash the valve body and clutch packs really fast in high mileage units.The Mopar ATF +4 is an other good fluid to use.

    Yes it will.Just remember you could get a Lock Up Transmission with the later Small Block units.You can tell the differences by looking at the Input Shaft.You do not want it with Lock Up.

    They still make us do that.I agree,the pinion depth is more than likely to shallow(need more shim).I have had some luck just on a depth and backlash reset.

    dakota 5 speed question

    The A535 transmission is to big around for car applications.Your best bet is the NV 3500 with the shifter relocated to the rear of the tail stock.
