very mild 360 build.

IMO, the mini van is the greatest vehicle in the world that was ever made lacking in 2 of the most important area.

1; Never enough power

2; Never to be a good looking & a cool ride you want to be seen in.
Wish I could find a nice B van (not maxi, I actually know where I can get my hands on one of those) like I used to have

I looked up melling cams, do you have a part number by chance? I'm only asking this for a future reference. Thanks RRR
Stock 360-2bbl melling cam is spd25. I think the 340 cam is spd22. I've used a couple of those 25s before in 318s, noticeable win power, idles like stock 318 cam. Exactly the same thing as the comp 252 minus 0.015" lift. Duration and overlap are dead nuts the same as the comp at a cheaper price. Good for a mild " 1 step over stock" cruiser. The first one I used was on a D250 that I towed a bunch with. Mileage improved over stock cam, too.

agree.. seems so many want to build 600hp motors any more.. not my thing for this car. this car is a cruiser and it needs to have good manners, be peppy, get decent mpg, not run hot or ping and be simple. needs to get up on the highway and cruise 75-80 mph. i think jamie will drive it much more this way. i thought about doing a 408 and decided if i was dropping that kinda money that i'd just go gen 3 hemi. in the end i didn't want to be bothered with all that. i have the 360 (multiple actually), knew how it ran, know it will be a fun car and look the way i and more improtantly jamie wants it to look under the hood with a mild 360.

to be honest when i had my yellow dart it ran 12.teens and was a blast around town, but i like going distances and with that motor and 3.91 gears it would go distances but it just wasn't "fun" for me.. when i hurt that motor and stuck this stock 360 in it with a 2.94 gear i enjoyed the car so much more.. it was surprisingly peppy and cruised anywhere i wanted easily. it got as good as 17mpg with a big 780 on it even ran well on 87 octane... i just wanted to freshen this motor up before dropping it in this dart. good thing i did. found 2 cam bearings in not too good a shape. so i'm sure this motor dressed basically the same as it was in the yellow car with a little cam, low gearset trans and 3.23 gears should be a bit more peppy and still cruise and be fun like i really want.
^^ This. My mindset when I freshened up the 360 in my Challenger. Peppy but well mannered. I'm running a 2.76 open rear in mine as I frequently drive open highway and it's nice to hold the fast lane and still get 18mpg... up to 23mpg if I'm lighter on the fun petal.

I thought the consensus was .750 lift and NO LESS. That’s what I’m sticking with
Just a question here, but actually is there such a thing as a 3/4 race cam? Again, I don't know as fact but I've heard that's just a term and doesn't mean a thing.

Back in the day there where cams advertised as 3/4 race cams, what specs does that mean ?
My guess they would be in the 230-250 range.

For a lot of people 3/4 RV stage 1 2 3 etc... Is easier to digests then all the other specs.
Why there one of the most asked questions.

for somebody that's been around, or says that they've been around cars for as long as you say, i can't think to be shocked about this. but, here we are. basically it's a toned down full race cam. here's the straight dope:
In the early 1950's the most popular original camshaft designers were the legendary Ed Winfield, the father of hotrodding, and Cliff Collins of Harman-Collins. There were lots of cam grinders that copied Winfield and Harman-Collins cams, but these two were the designers and innovators in the early days. It was popular to refer to cams as a 1/2 Race or Semi grind and a Full Race grind. Later, there was a call for an intermediate grind between these two. To fill this demand, Ed Winfield took the intake lobe from his full race cam and the exhaust lobe from his semi cam and called it a 3/4 Race cam (see Flathead Performance Cams). It was literally half way between a full race and 1/2 race cam.

Since that time, 3/4 Race has become a generic term for a high performance street cam, i.e. something less than a race cam.

also here's an article:

3/4 race cam is kind of an all encompassing term these days.

I've been around cars for years and I've heard the term 3/4 race cams for years as well. But never was given a explanation of what it meant.

I’ve always wanted a van with the double doors side and rear. Agreed, not a Maxi. The wife found me one with a manual trans on the floor. I am out of stable rooms. I’m going to have to make room but what do I get rid of? Certainly not the wife who finds me these gems!

Funny! Lunati actually has a cam called the 3/4 race cam for a SBM. We have a member that used to work for Lunati and he posted the actual link to the cam. It’s very very stout!

Try and search for it! Post up the link if you succeed!!!!

I'll check it out

Availability... i looked for a couple of months for a 360 in my area.. nothing. also 318s are $100-400... 360s much more if you can find them... or they already have a 318 laying around.. could be tons of reasons.. i could swear we had talked bout this before :)

that sucks. i have 3 other 360's besides this one. there is atleast one 360 magnum and a roller 360 on the local marketplace. both have video of them running.

Nice! I need to scrounge up a few spare suckers for a pair of roller 360 blocks.

well I didn't get any pictures today. was rushed, had to get my daughter to lacrosse practice. just cleaned up some parts and dropped the block off at the shop to get cleaned and new cam bearings installed.

Makes me want to build one.

How are the bores? Will they clean up with honing job?

i'm not in love with either cam, but the hughes would probably be my choice. the MP cam is okay, i guess. but like RRR said, a lot less fuss to set up and run.

personally i think there's better options out there, but if you don't want to drop the coin either would be a perfectly good one to run.
You will likely need plus .050 keepers with your huges cam.
