OK I get tagged on what coil alot. Here we go.
To optimize your ignition the coil HAS to be compatible with the system used. 99% of Mopar STOCK systems point and electric should be from the factory 1.5 ohm and have a 28KV output. I see alot of guys mis matching the coil to the systems. Great examples are the Petronix. The PI uses a 1.5 ohm coil the Pet II uses a .6 ohm coil and the Pet III a .3 ohm coil. Also it is recommended to jump the ballast resistor for OPTIMAL performance. That is all for the 8 Cyl Petronix. Now GM HEI you should be using a coil compatable that has a .33ish ohm primary such as the GM HEI coil and the Pet III coil no ballast straight 12VDC.
Now sytems with a Mopar HEI is all over the place depending on which box you use. Color does not mean it is a Mopar box, plenty of aftermarket ones out there in different colors. Best bet to see which match for the ballast and coil are is the FSM it has all the specs in section 8. Here are a few examples from older info.

Also another big myth out there is I just went to a MSD box and I will be putting out 50KV to the plugs now. Not with a stock 28KV coil, You will never get more KV out of a coil than its ratings. is matching components makes high fail ratios usually. Hope this helps out.
