i bought this car back in 88' when i was 13 for $250. it was my driver up until 96' i have had gear sets from 5.13's 4.56's, 3.91's, 55's, 23's down to 2.76's. for a short time i ran a tunnel ram with dual 450 holleys. the best time i could get was 13.81 at 99mph. not to too bad for a $50 short block out of the Recycler classifieds. it was an auto until i did the manual swap. ran the standard a833 then opted for the all cast iron a833 OD. currently building a Feb. 1970 360 short block 10.8:1, .490 276 purple shaft, with a mildly ported pair of J's. 340 intake and exhaust manifolds and a 750 holley. i ran a B body Rear for the longest time then opted to have a new rear end hosing cut down with moser axles to tuck in my wheels. they are old school Centerlines 16x9's rear and 16x8's fronts. the original cluster was tossed and i fitted the Autometer gauges in the cluster. includes mopar fuel pressure gauge. i had to replace the rear lower quarters and the door jamm strikers due to rust. marker lights were shaved as well.

This is a pretty bad *** car. You will need to post some more pics of it though. Good luck with the build. I am in the middle of converting mine to a 4 gear right now and having trouble with some cheap *** shifter linkages I got from ebay. Good luck with your build though.

So.... the second picture is of you and one of your buddies working on the body shortly after you got it in '88?

totally rebuilt the wire dash and engine harnesses. replaced all questionable wires and wired in heavier gauge wires from the fuse block to the bulk head for handling larger loads like better lighting, etc.. installed fuse box from a 1990 Dakota. so, no more glass fuses!!! on the dash i have the lower tray from a 68 Barracuda. its hard to see. Autometer gauges installed in factory cluster.

Fontexico? Is that close to Fontucky?

Nice looking project.

well i have owned this car for 23 years and i have decided to can the 10.8:1 360 CI and 4 speed. obviously this engine i have is not that street worthy on cheap gas. as the dollar is declining again to a gallon of gas in recent years. it would be wise to update the Duster with a more modern engine. i know the Mopar purists will ****. i have so far done this swap without any k member mods so it can be returned. before anyone chimes in with the Fast and furious comments i have had this idea lingering in my head for years. i will be selling off my 340-360-318 parts and all four speed stuff as well. this was a complete running 4 spd car. so it looks like someone here in so ca. will be able to swap their car over. for the right price.... here is what happened this weekend....
well out with the old and in with the new! i had picked some cores to start mocking everything up. i had to pull an oil pan from a 3rd gen. supra 7mge. i had major clearance problems with the Dusters K-member. now she is all nestled in. i now have clearance on everything! i couldn't have asked for a better fit. now i need to fab the engine mount brackets. the pass side will be somewhat easy, the drivers side will take some thought. the best part of this project is my son is involved with it too and he is getting an education in engine swapping.

although I hate seeing mopar MUSCLE turned into something other than.

I think its neat what you are doing and definitely interesting.

Do what it is you want to do.

although them little foreign engines do not have that muscle car sound and the lumpy growl at an idle or that loud roar when you smash the pedal.

they can be built to be very respectable power plants.

good luck with the build and glad to see you got your little one involved....its fun having your own beside you to learn a thing or two

Interesting... Not what I would do. But kinda cool in a sick sorta way. Kudos though for not being a lemming.

ive been part of this undertaking since the begining, as the " shoot the ideas off of" guy. its just another incarnation of the duster. hes nuts but does it with class. btw- loving the cardboard mounts...........lol

Cool! Whatever keeps it on the road, instead of under a cover. I wouldn't want to race you.

FWIW, I see this as no worse than a 3rd gen "hemi" swap.

Id like to see this turn out, I love the cardboard motor mounts XD they are fantastic. What gauge will you be using to fabricate those in?

well so far i was really expecting a serious lynching. as for the rubber engine mounts i used the stock mopar mount for the drivers side and the supra for the pass side. i haven't decided on the size of steel to be used. i know i will use 1/4" minimum for the plates that will bolt to the block. as i progress i will have more details.

If you are up to it I would plan on changing the cam covers so the said "plymouth" or something. That would really mess people up!

Are you using the supra 6-speed?

well that would fool the less informed for sure. they would think its the Aus. Hemi six cyl. that makes 300hp. though i want to be up front with nothing to hide. since i do play a lot with Vintage Jap Tin, Datsun's and Toyota's. I'd like to play both sides of the street if i could.

Sadly, the Supra six speed is not in the budget.... have w58 5 spd. for now, then maybe the R-154. w58's don't hold up well to turbos i have a junk trans that i am using for the sizing up and mount mocking.

I just thought it would look cool. What you do is up to you. Also are you planing on painting the engine or leaving it aluminum? Because hemi orange with black cam covers and a spattering of aluminum bits would look spectacular!

Bummer. Still. Five is better than nothing.

that is a great idea! hemi orange with wrinkle black cam covers, the aluminum fins on cam covers polished. i will put that on the to do list....
got another idea brewing......

well i have to make a fresh air intake on the pass side and also need to feed air to a top mounted intercooler mounted above the drivers inner fenderwell under the hood. the scoops will be made out of aluminum measuring 3.5" x 12" one on the pass side and one on the drivers. there will be a rectangle duct 4' x 6" going up through the fenderwells from the scoops for feed air for both intercooler and intake.

Whatever floats your boat, but I think I am going to be sick.

Interesting, how much power does that Toyota make?

Of course I thought it was cool when a couple Nova's showed up at KCIR with BB Mopars in them. :D
