Installed my TTI headers today but one of the tubes hit the power steering box.
Now what? Anybody else have this problem? How did you fix it? 70 dart swinger 340 auto consoul power steering.

Call Schumaker and get a set of the motor mount shims and use the 1/4 inch one on the left mount. Had to do that on mine. Was just barely hitting.

I guess it depends on your k frame (pad or spool)

I find there is no room to spare when putting headers on an Abody. The hooker headers on my 68 cuda, the one side is against my steering shaft at the moment. I also had to buy a clockable starter because the M.P starter still wasn't small enough because of the headers.
Suprising, TTI's stuff usually fits pretty good, just throwing some options out there, depending on the type of headers your working with, the problem area on the header can be heated to a temperature that will allow you to bend that section enough to accommodate the power steering box, not sure if that will comprise the structural strength of the header. Or that area can be cut out and a new reformed section can be welded back in, if done properly no one should be able to tell. Or put in a flaming river manual steering box and elimate the P.S
Maybe there is a better fitting header then the TTI for a 70 Dart that someone is aware of.

tti fits everything perfect. At least that's what the "chief don't know crap tti pusher" will tell you. Please note the sarcasm in the first sentence.

Make sure your engine is located per tti's directions. You may have to shim it, loosen the mounts and retighten to get it in the correct spot, loosen the power box and move it slightly.

i made some shims for mine, one tube also touches the starter. way better still than the low hanging cheepo headers, plus mine look new after 10 years and about 10k miles.

Is there play with the power steering box?

My present duster has manual steering so theres no issues with the TTI'S..my previous duster had power steering and it also had NO issues are you sure your motor is sitting correctly???...

I had the same issue on a 67 fish with power steering, added the shims, then the MSD dist hit the windshield wiper motor :angry5:. Removed the shims, added the poly-loc mounts(stock rubber was not cutting it with the cam) and Installed a Mallory dist, Been all good for the last 4500 miles.

For the money TTI's cost, they should fit slam perfect with no ghetto riggin shims and they oughtta send along a hottie "personal satisfaction technician" to give you a happy ending. Anything less is complete bullshit.

My motor mounts are shot! I wouldn't be able to do headers until I get new ones.

I put tti's on 4 cars and none of the cars had a problem. They looked like they were going to hit but they all cleared. Remember these are 40 plus year old cars so some clearences may have changed.

Well, in my case the 340 isn't an original engine so it didn't surprise me that it had to be shimmed a bit.
However, I do like the PST and Happy Ending ideas, though.
Should I call them and ask them?

I was told that if you use a pad motor mounts (not spool) try to push the motor toward the rear of the car as far as you can when you install it. This will help clear some problems.

I agree with StrokerScamp and Crackedback. The drivers side header on my Dart had to be crimped in a number of places and more than just a little bit, to get things to work. I wasn't to pleased cracking the nice new shiny ceramic coating on these pricy headers in order to get them to fit. Of course TTI techs told me that there was something wrong with the car as in wrong k member or bad mounts or some bs like that. Of course I had to rework my z bar also before I could work the clutch and TTI said that's to be expected! BS! In retrospect had I known I was going to have the hassel I had getting these headers to clear, which even yet it's touch and go with the drag link, I would never have bought them. My plain ole Hookers from back in the day with the big elephant Mopar starter on the engine, fit perfectly with no shimming or crimping necessary...hands down. If the TTI's develope holes at some point, their coming off and Hookers or some other decent fitting header is going back on. It's no fun once the engine is in the car and everything is all nice and freshly painted with no scratches or nicks to have to pull the drivers side header back out and start crimping tubes and try not to scrape the crap out of the engine bay or the tubes! Sorry guys...I just felt like venting this morning. I think I got into the Holloween candy a bit to early this morning and I'm having a sugar meltdown!

That is a real Work of Art, BTW. Looks great.

My Dougs were extremely close, like 1/16" from the power steering box. I shimmed the 2 inside pads of the PS box 1/8", which pushed it out a little, and then I had about 1/8" clearance. When I swapped the engine, I also put in new mounts, and now I have almost 1/4" of clearance.
