My opinion is you should have stayed out of it.
Now it`s dirty money, and you`ve heard of karma.
We don`t know this guys situation.
Back in my 20s my niave stupid EX wife fell sucker to a crack head bit**.
Probably gave her a sob story, so called new friend had toddlers and a worthless crackhead husband.
To shorten it up, my ex stopped paying my bills, she took care of all my finances. I did`nt have a clue untill they came after my first new vehicle, a little nissan truck.
This was the most heartwrenching time in my life, and I had 2 little ones to take care of too.
Morel? stay out of it unless you really know the people involved.
Give the money to a charity.

We shouldn't judge each other on this because we all wouldda handled it differently and none of us really knows what we'd have done unless the exact situation was on us. Fiscally, the OP did all of us a favor that pay our bills. Beyond the fiscal realm, there are only the individual moral issues of the person making the decision. The OP was brave enough to ask our opinion. We were all friends before this thread. We should act like and remain friends after.

He was asked a question and aswered it honestly, and now I'm sure he's paying for it inside.
THIS is what it takes to be a stand up man.

There's another one.
He did the right thing when asked and they offered to pay him for it AFTER the fact. (from what I read)
I'd bet you anything that if they said "I'll give you 500 to turn in your neighbor he would not have told them anything.
I hope you dont "mind your own business" if you see a violent crime and don't give a description because it doesn't involve you.
Gees
Everything around us is ALL of our business, our prosperity, or our downfall.
It's ALL our choice.

I think you're being extreme....

I think someone did the right thing by telling the truth and was probably made to feel like crap about doing so.

Simple as that.

I'm good, and will let it go.
Till I see it happen again to someone else.

I think you're being extreme....

There's nothing wrong with it. You made some money, which i'm sure you could use for something. I wouldn't sweat it.

This has been very thought-provoking. I think it would be interesting to see how different age groups feel about this, from the oldest generation alive today on down to young adults, and even children for that matter.

There's someone that's thinking about the overall picture.
What do you see changing as the generations go by?

Dude you don`t read very well, go back to the OPs first post, The repo man offered the$$ before hand and the OP made his decision.
Greed kicked in, quick easy 500 clams. And now he feels guilty, thus the post in the first place.
This is`nt about felonus crime, if it was, yeah rat em out in a heartbeat.
And I`m not defending the guy who had the truck.
Being a independant, sometimes contractors will hold your money, "cause they can get away with it" for 90 days before you can even legally persue them, maybe this was this guys situation? I`ve been there many times, but I learned to keep money back for these times, and pay off my trucks ASAP!!
Yep, a moral decision, he made it, now he has to live with it.
And he`s on here looking for consolance.
Funny how many are saying take the money and run.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you:happy1:

So much has changed it would take forever to discuss that question.

One thing that comes to mind, today it's all about having fine things to give you status. If you have old furniture or an old car, people look down on you and shun you. In previous generations, people valued living modestly.

Listen I am about the most unselfish person you would ever meet. You can ask my friends and family. If you read my op I said "Whatever" when the repo man offered the finders fee. I was not expecting to hear from him again and was shocked when he called me back. I felt like it was the right thing to do. Listen this is the way that I see it, Repo man needs to get paid and the finance company is owed money and this guy is holding on to it and enjoying it on someone's dime. I felt it was right, money or no money.

And he`s on here looking for consolance.

Nope. Just wondering what you guys would have done.

Ok we heard a response from a young adult, thanks d_d.
np bud i just know whats right and wrong now ive got a hole other thing for stealing lol in a way if the guy was hiding the truck it was staling it .. and is a bad thing ... lets say he was trying to seal a hamberger to eat cuz he coould not buy that hamberger thats ok cuz u have to have food u dont have to have a truck to live ... thats why i said what i did

trailbeast, do not go changing up now, my friend! :)

what someone else just posted a minute ago....... i agree 100%. if it was malisious , yes, i would point fingers. as in a crime or something.

but we need to keep this directly about what is represented to us by the original poster. they are the facts. he stated them. this is not about being a man or not.

he posted that he made a descision to give up on neibor for the finest thing in life^^^^ 500.00 ! i think it was a horrible desicion, and like stated, karma is a painfull *****.

but, this man is also savable, as he has a consence, as he posted here that he may have done the wrong thing.
some will say it was wrong (as i) some will say he did the right thing. only he knows what choice he made.

you guys are right, they would of eventually got it anyway, but he went above and beyond.

i am not here to judge him, and i opligize for any comments that you take i was directing at you directly, as nothing was. no matter who posted it, i would say how i felt once i read it. i am not a person to judge a book by the cover, you can ask plenty of members that have met me in person, or on the phone, or other ways through this site.
i treat others as i want to be treated and exspect to be treated as i treat others!.
i said my peace about it, but find myself getting cought in the "webs of life"
again, o.p, i am sorry if you feel i disrespected you in any way, shape or form plot

ok, here is another every day worl occurance.

say you buy a brand new car, or even an old mopar for that matter. you take out a loan on it, pay for like 5 years, and got 5 more left. one day you get laid off, and now you are unable to continue to pay at that time. put yourself in them shoes. i know there is always two sides to a story. i would do anything to keep what i have already invested into like that. can you imagine paying 40k towards a 60k car, and them take it?

ahhhhhh, do not go changing up now, my friend! :)

I have seen numerous threads on this site about people not paying up or not receiving parts that are owed them. You see guys offering help all of the time for total strangers. Is this wrong? It's none of my business that this guy just screwed over that guy. That's a great way to be. Oh wait I guess that it's aright when it's a big fat cat finance company with share holders and investors. Answer that.

Ok then let me ask u what would the right thing to do be plot

^^^^^^^ there is no right or wrong answer for the public. it is a answer within yourself as a person.

if it was me, i would say to myself. hmmmm, they know where he lives, so they will get it, but that would not be the way for me to collect 500 beans. and told the guy repoing it, good luck

like i said, that is what i would have felt was right.

next person may say he would of shot the repo man, and to that person, he would of felt that was right in his own eyes.............. then again, i sit now and say, " who am i to judge the o.p?

i have no right to, and i should not, ans i am sorry

The foundation for the American value system.
To bad we don't have politicians that still think like this.
