Tubular Lower Control Arm Thread

-
That rack and pinion thing really bugs the hell out of me. As A body owners,we cant get a drop in rack and pinion kit? WTF?

You can in Australia for our RHD variants.
From a couple of different sources actually.
However,I have read mixed reports on their quality, fit and effectiveness.

I'm glad to see this coming together. May look into it depending on price. Will you be able to use any tubular UCA's or just the RMS UCA's? I bet there would be a lot more room for a single turbo exhaust with the t-bars gone.

PM Sent. Yes the RMS stuff will work too. It's up to you.

Ok I have my gussets tacked in. They will get stitch welded in with the tig later tonight in the jig. I have also positioned the coilover lower mounts roughly where they should be, but Louis will confirm this when he mocks it up. I think these mounts are a little tall and should be cut down.

In the second pic you can see what I have done for a steering stop. 9/16" shaft with a ball end that is welded solid. It should actually be stronger than the factory setup. Simple and strong.

Some Ideas on supporting the upper portion of the shock towers.

Nothing particularly new here, but perhaps of interest.

Rather than have the pierce the firewall and attach to a cage, they could simply be welded to a plate that is welded to the firewall.

I apologize to the guy whose car these pics came from, normally I like to give attribution but I can't remember where I got them from.

Regards,

Joe Dokes

I think crackedback posted those and they are a friends car. The only issue I see with them is where the bar lands along the frame rail it is really tight because of tire contact. I mean to the point where the tire almost hits the frame rail if a guy runs wide tires. I think one solution is like what Inkjunkie did with his car. Have the snout bar pass through the inner fender and land on the frame rail inside of the engine bay.

I think that I have a solution that should work with a guy not wanting to run snout bars or J bars in the engine bay.

I will need to do something like this tied into the cage. All my Turbo stuff is in the way under the hood. I wonder how much tire clearance he has like Badart is saying..... Wonder what size tires/wheels are on that car. Maybe Cracked can answer this question.

I did one final mock up before I weld everything together and it fits like a glove. Everything clears and the sway bar mounts turned out perfect. I weighed everything in the pic and it all weighs 61 lbs. Pretty light if you ask me.

Here are the two 1/4" spacers to adjust caster in the LCA that I was talking about earlier in the thread.

It may be fine too. I guess that's what mock up is for right. We will see soon enough.:D

You know John, the more of your work I see the happier I get about the j bars and rad support bar Im ordering from ya! Rest of the money should be on the way soon btw!

One thing that I forgot to post is this pic. When I was aligning the pivot bushings I folded up the arms like this and then tacked the plates. That way I know the arms are square. Nothing against MaMopar, but these K's were just thrown together. On this K member the alignment was off on the passenger side when I checked the plane through the pivot hole to the mount for the strut rod. Louis I hope that you are taking notes. :D Did you notice the zerk fittings? Tomorrow I plan on making a couple of videos of how this thing goes together. I think it should help.

Yes, I have been following every detail. I was going to ask about the Zerk Fittings last night but I figured it was getting done on the final touches. Yeah a Video would help. I like the idea of the 2 Spacers that you can move around to help with the Caster Adjustment. This way the guys without the Upper Control Arms or even with them can set it up correctly for their intended use! Great Job!
