As some of you have seen in my intro thread and my sale ad, I've got a '66 Valiant Signet. This car is beautiful! Slant six, three on the tree, newer paint, new interior.

What do you guys look for when buying a car in this category?
What would you change/not change to sell this car?
I need to make this car sellable and it's just not happening the way she sits.

What am I doing wrong?! Help!! :help: :dontknow:

Speaking as an old fart who was driving when this was built all I would do is turn up the torsion bars a bit, HD shocks all around, maybe an extra leaf in rear springs, and blackwalls with mags. Best of luck, it's a really good looking Val'. Of course a Form' S exhaust would be cool too.

It just a tough economy right now.
Some like the low rider some dont...But really it is just the economy, that is a pretty car !!!
Just like bargeahead stated, look at his car and I do not know if he sold it.

Just add some pictures of the motor and if it is as clean as the car,let the ad run till you get some offers...

Don't know how long u can wait, how about the March meets at Famoso?Cars move well rhere,if I recall correctly.

It's not you! You are finding out that even though these are really great cars they can be VERY difficult to sell. For instance the '66 Signet I bought was on sale for almost a year.

This is just a poor time of the year to sell a vintage car, so my advice is to be patient, if you need to sell it then you'll need to drop the price until it sells.

Take it to some local car shows, the bigger the better. But I think you'll need to put it on the internet just because there aren't too many people interested in a Valiant. I would put an ad on Craigslist (I know you are ready did). You'll need to have honest specific info on the follwoing items: condition of body (rust, dents, repairs), mechanical (engine & chassis) and interior (wear and tears) - detailed pics are what it is all about, take them on a nice sunny day and underneath pics go a long way.

If it does not sell eventually you might need to consider putting it on eBay maybe without a reserve price.

your selling it , the last thing you want to do is sink $$$ into it you wont get back , it only takes 1 buyer ,its clean no doubt about it , broader coverage is gonna help , ebay , local classifieds ,etc . whenever parked leave a for sale sign in window w/ boyfriend or dads # to avoid the wackjobs :D , its a tough time of year to sell a hobby vehicle , after christmas & before taxes . also spring & summer will sell better , dont be dis couraged , it can take time .

I like it. Did I not see this with moon hubcaps on it??
You just need the right buyer to come along. Patience.
Strikes me as a car someone with ink would buy. I have a number of clients that would look good in it! Or at least for a photo shoot.

ahah it did have moon caps on it. Checked you out.

I think the car is sellable just the way it is. I wouldn't try to change things to suit a future buyer, especially if it cost's you money. Any change you make may not be what a future buyer would do anyway, so I would stick with the advise of more coverage, detailed pictures of every aspect of the car, and the right buyer will show up.

I also agree that it is not the best time to sell a car right now, and the price for hobby cars is way down. I had my GTX up for $16,500 and was willing to go lower, but didn't get a single offer. Three years ago it would have sold for $22K, probably couldn't sell it for $10K right now.

Your car is worth the asking price, but the economy is keeping it from selling there. Lowering the price may be your only option, but only after a media sales blitz. And that Famoso and Turlock idea sounds promising. Some people aren't on the internet and some prefer to see a car in person to look it over completely!!

Good luck with the sale!! Geof

thats a nice looking car.. i wouldnt put more money in to it and sell it...just a tough economy right now,,,so here is a bump for the nice car,and you mike

The wheels contrast nicely, for the kustom look.Grabs your attention across the avenue.

i'd keep it and make it a killer car :D

believe me, rust free good cars are hard to find. if you sell that one and buy another prepare to spend some serious cash on stuff you dont expect to fix.

1) what are you saking? is it too much for the car?

2) atleast put hub caps over the red wheels. red wheels scream hacked together rat rod.

3) boy it sits low.. can ya raise the torsion bars and if it has lowering blocks remove them and get it sitting closer to stock height.

that car will sell better in more a stock type of look.. it will open yhr potential buyer marker up wider.

I can wait as long as it takes! Although impatient, I can suck it up and wait. I will definitely look into Famoso!

My husband and I have tattoos! Tell your friends about the car!

Price is a big factor, how much are you asking for it?
I'm asking 3,500, and willing to negotiate. I'm not looking to make a profit; just break even.

You are very right. I'm just gonna have to suck it up and load the whole family in that thing and pray we don't have to bring it home!

Aaaaaw, thank you! Very kind ;)

went to the sale ad. $3500 and being negotiable is not out of line for that car . i can see it bringing between $2500-$3000. if it were closer i would seriously think about it for my boy who turns 17 next week..

i'm just sayin... you wont find a replacement car in that kind of shape for under 10k
i inherited a "project" car and lemme tell you... it's going to take a ton of money, time, effort to get the body back to what it should be.

your car is worth waaaaaay more than $3500

I think it will sell better if it looks like grandma's car.....not granddaughter's car. Get it back to stock looking and you will find a larger base of buyers.
