So I posted a while back about how I had finally made good with everything I needed to get my license back after 13 years. Well after paying $13,000 dollars and going through 120 days of on and off jail time Dupage county has decided that they will not release the hold on my License until I pay $56,000 in bond forfeiture money. Every time I think I'm this close they slam the door in my face again. I tried to negotiate a payment plan and they responded with "Sure pay us $56,000 as the first payment" it took me 13 years to save up for the $13,000 in fines in the first place now they want me to basically pay for half a 1 bedroom home.

I'm 36, have 3 kids and a wife, work an hour away from home, ride halfway with a co worker and stand outside in the rain, snow, hail waiting for my wife to pick me up at night. This is ridiculous I have never had a DUI never been in an accident, never arrested for anything else ever, yet there are illegal immigrants that have a better chance at getting their License then I do.

I've spent thousands on Lawyers, lots jobs, lost wives and girlfriends, and now they want to make sure it all happens again. I have no options left short of leaving the country.

A friend in NJ was in a similar jam a few years back, he filed bankruptcy and included the state of NJDMV. Slate wiped clean, down to DMV to take the written test and start over.....

Short of getting two more full time jobs that's the only other way i see it could be possible.

I didn't see the other post you said you made, but if you don't mind my asking, why didn't you have a license for 13 years and then have to pay 13 grand to almost get one. Not trying to get into all your business, just curious.

I think spending money on a reliable lawyer would be cheaper than paying off even half that 56K. A lawyer who deals with this type of issue will put you on the correct and direct path to success and it may only cost you a couple K.

Illinois does not allow fines or any related things to be discharged in Bankruptcy.

Driving while suspended tickets.

I've had 3 lawyers take money from me telling me they can fix it. $5500 later they did nothing.

That sucks. Joe was up to his 16th or so driving on the revoked list ticket. He owed the state a boat load of $$ and was told $7500 up front and $2500 a month. Wish you the best of luck....

That sucks, you can kill people with your car and get your license back easier than what you've gone through. You have overpaid you debt to the state/society? Wish I had a solution for you, sorry. Good luck.

Worst part is I am installing DUI Baid machines at work so drunks can drive, I get to hear their stories about the accidents, deaths, court time, suspension time, and all that every day and then share with them my story and they laugh that I can't get my license.

If your lic status in IL is suspended pending bond, you get caught driving in IL with a WI lic, guess what, you probably pick up a new charge.

Better be careful.

will they let you pay it off with community service? i had a negligent driving in the 1st degree 5yrs ago and it cost me over 5k. I ended up doing community service. I ended up at a cemetery of all places. the guy there would write me off for 40hrs for a 6pk of beer. only took me a few months. yours would take longer but its alot cheaper then paying out of pocket.

Nice. Im sure you learned your lesson that way.:wack:

no 18yr old kid is going to learn a life long lesson by cutting some grass or washing dishes for free. the state fee's are extreme as far as im concerned. If it makes you feel better my dad made me pull the engine out of my car and sell it. It was either that or move out of his house. he said that he wouldnt let me drive a fast car like a jack *** and get someone killed while i lived under his roof. lesson learned.

Hey Ramone don't let these commies get you down . Beat them at their own game.
Go down to 26th n Kalifornia and pick up a sombrero along with a Dirty Sanchez mustache! Then go get yourself one a them ma"trick"ula consular ID's and I'll bet Rahmbo will have the red carpeting waiting for you down at the DMV .

And when they pass the Shamnesty bill ....you can start a new life as Senior Ramone Sanchez !!

Sad to hear about the car, but a lesson learned is Waaay more valuable.....Smart dad !!

That what I do...just MOVE all together and leave your fines behind...

I know a guy that did just that. Got away with it for quite a while. In the end they caught up with him. Fined him big time. He is probably still driving with out a license. Was a lot easier to get away with before all the DMV had computers.

Sorry to hear they pulled the rug out from under you. There must be a way to solve this.

Seems like that state is screw up--I didn't like it much when I was there for just a day last year.

NY seems really cool, I hear of drunks killing people while driving and they get 3 - 4 years in jail, in Illinois you get sen up the river forever.

That state threw 2 of its Governors in prison, I hope to never ever go back to Illinois.

I would move if I was you, too bad they got that $13,000 from you

Depends where you are at, in SW Michigan they hit you with 2nd degree murder and most often get a conviction. My dentist kid got rear ended by a drunk who was being chased by a person who didn't like his bad driving, the drunk was 29 years old and got 30 to 70 years in prison, he be an old man if he ever gets out

Now again, NY state, its far different..not sure about other states

Canada is "soft" on all crimes
