Building a wrecked SRT8 Challenger

-
tmm, I have three extra grilles assemblies for these cars and some other front bumper pieces. I also have a front bumper cover, but you stated you already have one. Let me know if there's anything I can do for you? The fron't bumpers are a ***** to put back together on these things!LOL

Thanks for the info and the offer. I will talk to Tony again tomorrow morning and we will go over what else we need. I think the grille is ok but the plastic receiver is broken and didn't come with the bumper cover we got. I'll keep[ you in mind for sure. tmm

When the impact happened and the air bags went off the computer would have killed the ASD relay shutting off the engine and fuel pump so you should be fine on the engine condition. The exhaust is not stock. You are correct and headders have been added. As for the engine one thing to remember is the main bolts are all torque to yield so if you are going to loosen them they will need to be replaced with new ones. If you need torque specs let me know I have the FSM for it.

Thanks for the info. You have been a lot of help. The engine turned over with a ratchet. Thanks again. tmm

Many thanks to toplscuda (Carl) for making me a great deal on a pan and pick up tube. We are waiting for the pan and the cradle to arrive and we should be able to put the suspension back together and get this thing running and moving under it's own power. We have been shopping for a instrument panel. That is going to be the most expensive part of this whole project. They are around $1100 without air bags and a lot of work to install. We might get a kit with the dash, bags, module, and belts for cheaper than individual components.
I looked again yesterday at the exhaust. There are definitely headers and aftermarket exhaust under the car. It looks like 2 stock converters and a couple small resonators. The tail pipes are hooked to factory tips coming out the back. All is nicely done and welded together. It should have a sweet sound and run like a scalded dog! I wonder if it is chipped? tmm

Brad blasted the crossmember we got and painted it. He also installed the oil pan and pick up we got from toplscuda. I hope to hear it run soon. tmm

Damn....nice score. Looks like you will do well on this. However you will want to remove those headers and send them up to me for proper disposal! I will cover shipping! Good luck with the fire up. You should have fun in this baby.

Pretty excited. Just found a set of take off wheels and tires in a small town close to home. 1000 miles on them. It pays to be patient! Greg (our body man) put in a hour on the original fender. If we can save it we might not have to blend the paint into the door and/or paint the hood. Can't believe a month has gone by with not much progress. The shop has been busy (good) and we have plenty of time. tmm

BE patient grasshopper, you are a lucky man,I miss going to those salvage sales getty those cheap cars to make money on after driving them for a yr.or so..and like rob said if you call your state police they will reinsepcked the car and you can get a clean title.thats why I would tag mine.to save all the BS,quistions wen you sell it to sum one.and im sure you know what im talking about.............Artie:coffee2:

I'm with ya there! All salvage titled cars in Iowa have to be inspected by the DOT before they can be put back on the road but they keep the branded title. tmm

Progress by leaps and bounds today! Tony arranged to look at the wheels and while I was waiting to hear back from him, Brad called and said yesterday and today he put a few hours into the car and had the crossmember and all the suspension installed. Yesterday he installed the coolers and double checked everything under the hood. We were ready to hear it run. We cranked it over a few revs and the Hemi roared to life. A little clatter from the valve train bit it went away in 15 sec. seconds or so. It had been a long time since the valve train had oil. It sounds good. It sounds healthy with the headers and aftermarket exhaust. We ran it 15 min. up to operating temp and until the cooling fan kicked on. We topped off the coolant and it was good to go! I will post some photos and maybe a video a little later. Happy day in the life of "The Orange Crate"............

Odamit boy,,thats a good feeling isn't it.I've had them that looked like they got hit by a freight train hoping and praying they would be OK and had one that was hit so hard in the rear end that broke the main caps :banghead: lost my *** on that one.(should have known better it was my first & last GM).but more than made up on it on the next one.well now that you have my glans activated with the sound of that HEMI first thing!!!! im outa here..........Artie

Nice score!! I just picked up a '12 SRT8 Challenger Yellow Jacket a couple of months ago.
Most fun you can have with your pants on LOL....

Greg has been busy with the body work and we're working on paint match Here's the panels with some new color. This is as exciting as hearing the engine run! lol We need to borrow a local car to see what and where all the fasteners go. When we got the car we didn't get a bag of clips or fasteners and the factory parts manual is sketchy as to were everything goes. It's like a big model car kit without instructions but we have an eye on a local car. Maybe would do a free oil change in exchange for looking things over. LOL
