I have an odd question, and I'm curious what your responses would be. If you could only choose between a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado and a 1987 Oldsmobile 442, which would you choose? You can base your answer on looks alone, performance, safety, fuel economy, whatever. Also, I understand the feelings and opinions of those on this site regarding non-Mopar vehicles, and all I would do is ask that you indulge me. I'm trying to settle a debate between myself and a friend. Thank you all for your assistance in advance.

I love the 87's, but given the choice I would choose the 66 for rarity.:finga:

See how I absolutely hate front wheel drive, 87 olds it is. Plus I could always swap in a grand national drivetrain

Push comes to shove.....I'd take the 87' also.

Now if the Toro' choice was a 70'GT W34 car.....I wouldn't hesitate one second. :D

don't like front wheel drive BUT would rather have that than the 87.... it does nothing at all for me....

Both are cool and I love them both but,
the '87 would win out.

The 66 Toronado a feat of engineering. The Monte Carlo...er 442 is cool I guess.

The 66 is a real car. The 87 is a piece of ****.

That's tough. I like both for different reasons.

If I were to pick, I'd end up with The Toronado, because the 442 isn't a GN, like I'd want it to be.

Hypothetically, I think that's why I'd end up with the Toronado. If I had to keep both as is.

Both are great looking cars and very interesting.

Now, if I had to drive one every day, I'd reconsider and go with the 442.

I don't want either one. If it was forced on me, I'd probably take the 66 if it was restored and ready to sell. The original Toronados were revolutionary, and many people never figured they'd "get off the ground." I sure as hell don't want an 80's GM product of ANY kind.

The 66 toronado for me. I would build it like the one Jay Leno ha *** converted to rear wheel drive. I think his is an Eldorado though. I worked on Bam's '67 Eldorado and it was a good solid car. By the seventies they were junk.

'66 Toro, hands down. Those things just ooze class, and they are sporty, for their era too! The '87 442 is just......forgettable....and the fact that they're one of the most-sought-after cars for low riding doesn't help. One other thing cool about the Toros is that big ol' flat floor on a full-size car is bad ***! I think anyone who would pick the '87 442 hasn't spent any time in an old Toro! They have more class in their gas pedal than that G-body has in its entire car! Sure, front wheel drive DOES suck, but if you're not doing mad launches, you don't even know it!

The only thing I have against the Toro is that it guzzles, and no overdrive.

My dad got a Toronado new in 1967, man would that puppy smoke the tires and it had a top end on it!!! 66 is my choice Nice cars!!!

Old school 66 Toronado for me. Real engineering !!

Having owned a '86 - 442, I'd say get the older '66.
