72 Scamp and 440 Work in Progress

-
Just found your build thread Josh. Very cool mopar. And most impressive plan and work done especially for a first time build. My first car wasnt nowhere near that advanced. I always have a lot of respect for a guy that does it himself his way. You earned that beast, enjoy. Thanks for showing it to us all.

Grille done... Got hurt at work so cant really do much just picking up small things to do.

A thanks SSBA glad my you like my build.

Well Ive got some work done. Changed out my ignition switch today and got my exhaust hangers in to make things nice and tight. Not sure what to do next?

Well paint holds assembly up. Need a windshield gasket, align front end panels, install grommet that seals gas filler tube to trunk floor. Kinda want to wait on polishing trim to keep it nice before going back on. Need to either rebuild or buy new wiper linkage as they dont work right.

Well I got the front end together and cleaned the windows of overspray. Having touble fine tuning the gaps at the fenders to hood. Also found someone to shoot it for me at a resonable cost.

Sweet! That looks good.... Nice work, around the tunnel ram....

Yeah it just barely fits though lol. I wish I had a way to dress it better. as I said the fine tune alignment of the hood and fenders has me puzzled i need small movements but all i get are big ones.

Be patient, before any paint. FWIW,the gaps, cost more you get closer. If the left fender gap, matches close to the right, call it good.(J.M.O.....).

the pass side is really fitting well. The driver not so much. Id like to get the fender to move out just an 1/8" or so but just cant seem to get it to. I suppose I could notch the holes maybe?

If the left front fender is not originally to the car,Scamp.(a closer picture, needed here.) Sometimes, you need to relax,it falls in line. My left fender, fell in line .( It's slightly tweaked, leaned on it.It now lines the gaps...).

these are the driver side. You can see the bottom along the door is good, the fender to hood is good but the back corner isnt good.

Pass side to me looks really good. Good gap in both locations.

Is there a good body shop near you? My friend has a 66 Newport and it was a low mileage car with original paint except the 4 doors were repainted, and not aligned very well, he took it to a body shop in town here that has been around for awhile, they aligned all 4 doors perfectly for a decent price....maybe you can have it done locally and save a headache?

BTW, the car looks good Josh! Any plans to make the trip up to MN for the Mopar show in Farmington?

I really have thought about going. My neighbor is going up. Id like to go up and spend the night though its a long drive for one day. Have to see what finances are like.

Finances are tight here too, but I save for this weekend and am spending the night, maybe 2 nights, not sure....but its a fun time, last year we had some beers at the hotel with some FABO members, think about it bud, its a great show :glasses7:

Keeps getting better. I'm digging it!

I ran into similar issues when I pieced the front end together on my '84 Mustang...but I had two different fenders (one from a '79, one brand new repop) and the end contours weren't exactly the same. Either that or my front subframe is tweaked--either or both could be true.

My drivers side gap on my Dart looks almost exactly the same... Good everywhere but that back corner at the door.. I fought it for days, never did get it perfect.. Doesn't stand out as much when everything's the same color.. I got tired of fighting and decided to live with it.. (The fender came from a donor car as well). Weird part is you only can really notice it at certain angles

I was able to get it closer looks alot better. Not perfect but you might be right when its one color it may not be as noticeable.
