So, what can I shoehorn into a Fiat 124?

I used to have a Fiat 124 Spyder and it kicked *** with the original Hemi design DOHC motor. (Too bad the engine is gone)
Anyway I always daydreamed about turning into a Cobra style car with wider fenders, roll bar and side pipes with a Ford 2.9 EFI V6 and a 5 speed.

Or maybe a rotary.

I was thinking more of a hi output 4 whanger, "something I can get parts for" LOL, n maybe a turbo. That's sure a fair price, that new top has to be worth some of that.

V8 all the way. Buick 215.

back in my younger days there was this event called "plaggencross"
the idea was much like a circle track demo derbi but it took place on a cornfield, after the harvest but before it got plowed so all the stubs of the corn would still be there

there was one team from Belgium that ran an old 2CV or beetle or something like that where each rear wheel was independently powered by a single hayabusa engine ;)

Get a diesel out of a Luv truck, turn it into a smoker. Probably get fifty miles to the gallon. Use the five speed standard trans.

To keep this on-brand, doesn't the Neon have a hot rod 4 cyl option?

If a Mopar engine isn't a requirement, ever since seeing one in a Locost 7 I've long wanted to do a Quad 4 in something. One of those with the aforementioned T-5 would be awesome and fairly easy to bolt to each other. No idea about fitting them to the car.

Those 124 engine bays are not very big. There's no way I'd try a V8 in one. I'm sure it can be done. I'm equally sure it will not be me fighting how to get it to stay cool on cruise night.

Either a Subaru STI motor or the ford ecoboost twin turbo V6.

Just dreamin at this point, LOL. Is the Neon engine used in anything RWD? I'd just as soon "bolt up" an engine / trans (prolly 5 speed) as opposed to tryin' to adapt some junk.

Friend of mine used to have a 124. They are kinda neat little cars. I need one like I need (additional) holes in my head LOL

someone on here did a SRT4 motor into a 67-9 dart and was rear wheel. as i recall they used easy to get parts to make it work and live.

Rotary all the way 12B engine, small, easy to find with transmission and loads of power. Comes with a 4 barrel holley too.

Or pick up a turbo rotary!!

HOLY CRAP A Ferd 5.0!!!

After a bit of Google, this doesn't look like a very practical swap. Maybe a Ferd Ranger style V6??

So, uh, why would you want to swap in anything else?!? The Lampredi Fiat engine is quite possibly the best 4 cyl engine ever built. What else ya gonna put in there that will run all day long at 9000 RPM?

My old 124 Coupe with a fairly mild 1608 was a pretty potent 5.0 Mustang killer in the early 90's. If I couldn't take them in a straight line, I'd lose them in the first turn. (9.8 compression, dual 40 IDF Webers, 300 duration cams, 21mm timing belt)

Because there isn't one in there, and they are expensive to get and find and buy parts for

If the expense and difficulty of parts is your hangup, put a small block Chevy in it. Problem QUITE solved.
