So I have a lead on an E-body, one similar to my first Mopar in high school. Should I sell my 69 383-S fastback to partially fund a new project?

Can't do both? I always regret selling a mopar so now we just keep them lol. Have any pics of the E-body? And why would your 383 fastback not bring in enough for an E-body car and only be a partial part of the purchase? How much are you asking for the fastback?

Here is the scope of my "S". It is a fast ratio steering, bench seat, 4-speed car from Idaho. I have had the car for nearly 25 years. It has a 440+6 in it now, but I have the original 383 including near perfect exhaust manifolds. I have the fender tag, broadcast sheet, window sticker and a video of the car when it was new. The car also has the original radiator which can be expensive to find another one. It is nice driver and people really like it when I take it to the shows. The car is straight and about as rust free as you can find. It does have numerous paint chips from driving it. Some touch ups and it will be good for some time.

These big block cars are hard to determine what they will go for. Any ideas what you think it is worth?

Factory stock original 383 4spd fastbacks can go for as much as $65 grand, yours being a little off original with different drivetrain and things and you having the original drivetrain available helps a lot. Should bring in around $26-30 grand easy if its really clean and not cut up or ever been wrecked or rusted out. Looks very clean. WHats the E-body you are looking at?

Running car that you know front to back > project car. Just my .02

If you want an E-body project. I have one that is just getting started and some cash that I plan to spend on it. You could have a project and I could have a running car! Just saying.

I'd take a loan out for the "E" body project car and continue to drive the A body!

No Way would I sell that for a E body.Unless it was a 71 Cuda....So what E body are you looking at????

Mine has never been cut up or wrecked. I did install a drive shaft loop, so there are a few extra holes. Nothing that can't easily be fixed.

I almost hate to say it but I like working on my car more than driving it.

I have had a few E-bodies and I would love to have them back(70 a66 challenger,71 340 black Cuda)A word to the wise, project cars can get very expensive when it comes to an e-body.
What year and model are you considering?
That Cuda you got is worth some good coin and a damn nice looking car to boot.

$65grand????? Waaaaaaaay off there. M-code cars aren't even brining close to that these days. I'd sell my M-notch if i can get $65g these days.

Some people here my or may not know that i run a '69 440 'cuda ONLY registry. I was just talking to a M-fastback owner yesterday as he i wondering what it might be worth if he decides to sell come spring time when he looses some storage space. The car runs and drives GREAT, can take it anywhere, but the paint is dead. Our price thoughts are WAY below $65g.

Sorry rklein383, not trying to bust a bubble. I myself would keep the 383-S over any E-body unless it ws something special like a 440-6 or better car.

I think dragondon's valuation of 26-30K is probably a little optimistic for my car.

Sounds like you have a desiscion to make only you can!

Your valuation is within reason but could get more. The car looks really nice and having the original pieces is a big plus!!!

E-body parts are easier to find IMO so if you decide to sell and go that way it will be far easier than the last 3 years I have spent trying to bring my 383 S back to life.

we all have our opinions, but..... I've had both 383 67 cuda, and tons of E bodies ( yrs back), personally I think the A is way better car than any E. but only you can know what rings your bell!
market: its been in the toilet since '07

I would agree, it is almost always cheaper to buy a car done, then to restore one, E body part's are expensive, and unless you do body work it can ring up really fast , just my opinion .

You have a really nice FastBack, but I know how it is when you think you might want something else. Like one guy said you can get about anything for a Challenger or Cuda now a days and it is exspensive trying to own a couple of these cars. I myself have been thinking of letting go of my e-body and buying a fastback cuda.

Hey Rod, after seeing your Cuba in the canyon last year, there's no way in he'll I'd get rid of it. I love e-bodies, owned several, still want another. But don't part with your ride. She's a badass

I went the other way and sold my e-body to build a hemi for my 68 fastback. No regrets
I couldn't afford to have both.
I got the ebody cause I always wanted one but generally could only afford the a-bodies.
It turned out I liked driving the a-bodies much more.
I would hang onto that fastback if it were me. My favorite mopars by far.
Will never go back. All of mopars best engines, transmissions and rear axles
can be bolted into the lighter A-body and they have the same wheel base.
The e-bodies interior is a bunch of plastic like a vega or some cheap 70s car.
The best feature the e-body has going for it is the pistol grip location. They did get
that right over the A-body. The women and Camaro and mustang guys will take notice of
the E-body but may overlook our a-bodies. But I never put much stock in what others
thought of what I was driving. You will miss that fastback.

I have had E-bodies before and I still have one and there is no way I would let a fastback cuda go in favor of one. E-bodies had their time and were overhyped because the rich guys got involved. A fastback cuda is quickly rising in popularity and value and they are an all around great car. If I had your cuda you wouldn't be able to pry it away, especially not in favor of just another E-body.
