I never had that problem in my life but I have it now.................................... My Mopar performance oil filters came in today for this /6 and it wouldn't go on. I thought at first the hole in the filter was too small. went back out to the garage and measured and the shaft is too long and the filter is bottoming out. Bout 1/2 " too long. There was a long filter on there but I want this filter on it. So, can I cut 1/2" off the length of the shaft or do they make a shorter adapter for the short filters. This one screws out. I would prefer to get another adapter just in case I wanted to go with a longer filter later. So what is this thing called. does anybody have an idea where to get one. I am learning. Thanks,Bill

Slants are designed for the long filter, you could always paint it black and add the mopar logo.

You need the longer Mopar filter to fit that. Not sure what the correct Mopar # is for it, but the longer ones are available aftermarket by many companies. Just don't put a Fram on it.
On a side note...... I once had a girl tell me to give her 12in and make it hurt. So I hit it twice and slapped her.

well, I guess I am going to have to see if these will fit either my big block or the small block. But according to Summit, the application for that filter is a slant 6. If anyone know the number for the long Mopar Performance filter for this, let me know. I will send these back to Summit and exchange them.

I am too old. I get too tired. According to Allpar, from birth to 1972 it states that the longer filter has to be used because of the longer stand. It suggests using the Purolator FL-30001 or the Fram PH8A. Now I don't really want a Ford or a Fram on here so someone help me out here and let me know of the Mopar Performance number. I am still looking.

Buy a nice Wix filter. They are also supplied by Carquest. But, I would rather have one that said Wix on it personally.

it looks like Dan posted several years ago on the slantsix forum that the WIX 51806 was an option. also the 51515 or Fleetguard LF3487 also. I believe this one had a 51515 on it when I took it off. But I am still going to try and find a long MP filter.

I use the NAPA Premium Gold filter, their PN 1515 which is the same as the PH8A. The NAPA is made by WIX (hence the PN similarity). The long filter just gives you a bit more oil capacity, which I like. BT, I raced on FRAM PH8A's for YEARS with no issue but that was some time ago and can't sya if the quality is different now.

You can just screw out the long standpipe and screw in a short one, using the hex flange at the base of the standpipe. If you want the short standpipe, I might have one to swap you for your long one. I have 2; 1 is 2.55" above the top of the hex (which may be what you have); the short one is really short, about 5/8" or 3/4" above the top of the hex and really just enough to thread on the filter with no actual standpipe extension.

If you saw yours off, you will need to take off a lot more than 1/2"! I would not do that without a pattern.

With the Italian connection, there is now a "Magneti Marelli offered by Mopar" filter # 1AMFL00001 that will work. I believe that this is all you are going to be able to buy from Fiat-Chrysler these days. AFAIK, they are still black and still say Mopar on them.

I'm running a tall filter (PureONE PL30001) , but apparently I have the short standpipe on a '75. Is there any harm in doing that?

from what I have read it has to do with the drainback. with a long standpipe, it holds more oil in the filter which is better on startup on upside down oil filters. so with that I will keep the long standpipe and use a tall filter. probably a Wix 51515.

Yes the standpipe is there to keep oil in the filter. other wise your engine would dry start until the filter filled every time you start it.

The PH8A or 51515R is Mopar filter P4529190 (the 0 could be an 8 ), just went out and looked what I had on the Duster.

You have the same problem I do, Bill.

About the oil filter issue though, you're probably better off using the long-style anyway. It's too bad you can't get one of the original type red, white and blue Mopar filters for a Slant:

I think that Mopar Performance filter is a repainted Purolator. I use the standard Purolatator because it's white like the OEM mopar filter.

most modern filters have a silicone anti-drainback valve in them already, ie Purolator PureOne filters, but they are an ugly yellow now? This is the correct app per Purolator PL-30001 for all 68 Mopars.

I think that if you cut it down it would work on both.

Why does it need to be so long? What is the purpose? Does it do anything important?

Yup. It keeps the oil from draining back into the engine since the filter is upside down. Helps eliminate dry start.

Does the anti drainback valve in filter acomplish exactly the same thing as the standpipe?

short standpipe may be avail from dealer, or any 73+ oil pump

Those Pure One filters are actually very good units. I have used them and spray bombed them.

The drain back valve is irrelevant here. The filter is upside down. If the tube is eliminated, then the oil will drain back through the galleries and ultimately into the pan. What's the big problem with running the correct filter?

that is what I was trying to accomplish here. what is the correct filter. I have never seen a filter upside down before. the MP filter I had originally bought was a short filter and would not fit over the standpipe. I guess I am going with a Wix 51515 for now.
